Two Express stores in Wisconsin to close as part of company bankruptcy

Express Inc., the clothing retailer that announced plans to file for bankruptcy earlier this week, will close two stores in Wisconsin.

The company, which owns the brands Express, Bonobos and UpWest, announced Monday it would close 95 stores in a news release announcing its plans. In a U.S. Bankruptcy Court filing, Wisconsin stores in Baraboo and Madison were among those listed.

The East Towne Mall location at 89 East Towne Mall in Madison and the Outlets at the Dells location at 210 N. Gasser Road in Baraboo were the two Wisconsin locations included in the filing.

The Baraboo location is an Express Factory Outlet, a more affordable offshoot of the company's flagship stores; the Madison location is an Express.

Among the company's plans is a majority sale to a new ownership group that consists of WHP Global, Simon Property Group and Brookfield Properties. The company also intends to close all 10 locations of its UpWest stores, it said in its release.

Brookfield Properties owns the Mayfair mall in Wauwatosa and the Fox River Mall in Grand Chute. Simon Property Group owns Bay Park Square in Ashwaubenon and outlet malls in Johnson Creek and Pleasant Prairie. WHP Global owns a number of retail brands, including Anne Klein, Lotto, Isaac Mizrahi and Joseph Abboud.

The first Express store was opened in 1980 and, before this week's closures, had 530 retail locations between Express and Express Factory Outlet.

What Express stores in Wisconsin are left?

In Wisconsin, there will be five Express stores remaining and two Express Factory Outlet Stores. Once the Madison location closes, the Express stores in Wisconsin will be at the Mayfair mall in Wauwatosa, the Brookfield Center in Brookfield, the Fox River Mall in Grand Chute, Bay Park Square in Ashwaubenon and the West Towne Mall in Madison.

The company's remaining Express Factory Outlet stores are in Eau Claire and Pleasant Prairie.

There are no Bonobos locations in Wisconsin, with the closest being in Chicago, which has four. UpWest also has no stores in Wisconsin but has one store in Chicago.
