Two killed after car crashes into Highland river

Two men have been killed after a car crashed off the road into the River Garry in the Highlands.

Police said the car entered the water off the A87 near Invergarry. Emergency services were alerted to the incident at about 08:00.

The men, aged 27 and 31, died at the scene.

The road was closed at its junction with the A82. The vehicle was visible in the river below Invergarry Bridge.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service area commander Michael Humphreys said: “Operations control mobilised two appliances and two water rescue teams to assist emergency service partners.

"Sadly two men were pronounced dead at the scene."

“Our thoughts are very much with family, friends and the wider community at this difficult time.”
