Twitter trolls Mario Lopez's turn as KFC's Colonel Sanders in new Lifetime movie

Fast food icon Colonel Sanders is about to hit the small screen — and social media is already in agreement that the film looks finger-lickin’...well, something.

On Monday, Lifetime announced its partnership with Kentucky Fried Chicken (YUM) for a new mini-movie appropriately titled “A Recipe For Seduction.” The show stars “Saved by the Bell” heartthrob Mario Lopez, who plays Harland Sanders, a handsome chef with a “secret fried chicken recipe and a dream,” according to the official trailer.

The plot centers around Sanders and a young heiress who falls for him, as her devious mother attempts to set her up with a handpicked suitor of her own.

The 15 minute film, which appears to include all of the ‘savory’ tension typical of traditional Lifetime movies, is the channel's first custom branded content — and shows the marketing prowess of the fast food chain.

“We're no stranger to heating things up for the holidays, just like our famous fried chicken scented Firelog. But let's face it, we could all use a little distraction this holiday season, so why not fill some of your time at home with a suspenseful drama and the comfort of our world-famous fried chicken?” KFC U.S. CMO Andrea Zahumensky said in a press release.

And the announcement quickly went viral on Twitter, with the jokes flying fast and furious. The platform’s users linked the film’s not-so-subtle ode to the absurdities of a strange and turbulent year.

Meanwhile, Uber is getting in on the greasy fun too. To celebrate the film’s release, KFC and Uber Eats (UBER) will give away six free extra crispy tenders with a purchase of $20 or more.

The Uber Eats special promotion will be available to fans between December 13 through December 19, according to the release.
