Twelve fire, EMS companies receive state grant funding

Several local Fire and EMS companies received grants through the 2023-24 Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program, according to a news release from Rep. John Schlegel's Office.

A total of 12 fire companies in the 101st Legislative District were awarded nearly $170,000 in state grants through the program.

The grants can be used for training, debt reduction, education and public outreach, recruitment and retention efforts, construction of renovation of a unit's station and the purchase or repair of equipment.

Here's who received the funding:

  • Community Fire Co. of Cornwall Borough: $14,034.

  • Ebenezer Fire Co.: $13,451.

  • Friendship Fire Co.: $14,229.

  • Glenn Lebanon Fire Co.: $13,645.

  • Goodwill Fire Engine & Hose Co. No.5: $13,256.

“Emergency services personnel are tasked with saving lives and property, and we rely on them to be there in our times of need,” Schlegel said in the release. “This funding will help ensure our local fire and EMS companies have the tools, personnel and equipment they need to effectively respond to emergencies in our communities.”

All fire companies, EMS services and volunteer rescue squads are eligible to apply for the annual grant program, which is funded with state gaming proceeds. Funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with the Office of State Fire Commissioner by July 1, 2024.
