TVLine Items: 9-1-1 Adds Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Melissa Fumero’s New Show and More

Some fun news: TV veteran Malcolm-Jamal Warner is scrubbing in for a guest-starring role on 9-1-1.

The actor will appear in four upcoming episodes of the Ryan Murphy procedural as Amir, a hospital burn unit nurse with ties to Bobby’s (Peter Krause) past, our sister site Deadline reports.

Warner is no stranger to scrubs, having previously portrayed Dr. AJ Austin, a star cardiothoracic surgeon, in Fox’s The Resident.

Additional TV credits include Sneaky Pete, Suits, Major Crimes, Community, Sherri, the UPN sitcom Malcolm & Eddie, The Magic School Bus (voicing The Producer) and The Cosby Show.

* Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) AnnaSophia Robb (The Act, Dr. Death) and Ben Rappaport (For the People, Younger) will lead the NBC pilot Grosse Pointe Garden Society, hailing from Jenna Bans (Good Girls, Grey’s Anatomy), Bill Krebs (Good Girls, No Tomorrow) and Universal Television, according to Deadline.

The story follows members of a suburban garden club who get caught up in murder and mischief while struggling to make their conventional lives bloom.

Fumero will portray the entitled, bestselling author Birdie; Robb will play Alice, a high school English teacher whose best dreams are crashing down on her; and Rappaport will take on the role of Brett, a father who put his car restoration business aspirations on hold to support his now ex-wife through law school.

* Paul Bettany will star as composer Antonio Salieri opposite Will Sharpe’s Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the Sky limited series Amadeus, per Deadline. The show currently doesn’t have a U.S. home.
