Diamond Rio show is Dec. 17

NEW PHILADELPHIA − The Performing Arts Center at Kent State Tuscarawas, 330 University Drive NE, will present the Diamond Rio Holiday and Hits concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17. Tickets are $79, $66 and $53.

Also planned this month is the “Church Basement Ladies: Away in the Basement” at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 19. Tickets are $45, $35 and $25.

Church choir to present cantata Dec. 17

CARROLLTON − Mount Pleasant Methodist Church choir will present a cantata, "On This Very Night," at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17. Created by Karla Worley, it will be directed by Mindy Domer with Judy Capper serving as pianist and Joanne Eshler as organist. Jay Stoneman will present a piano prelude at 7:15 PM. .

Civil War trivia night is Thursday

DOVER − The Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table will hold a Civil War-themed trivia night in memory of longtime member Steve Long at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Community Room of the Dover Public Library. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team. For more information, call 330-343-6123.

DOVER − Author and photographer Patricia M. Albrecht, formerly of New Philadelphia, will speak about her books "Three Tiny Houses - That Weren’t” and “Thoughts from an Old Lady” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Dover Public Library.

DOVER − Akron native Carl Quatraro will present “The Making of A Christmas Story” 6:30 p.m. Monday, at the Dover Library. Foundation accepting scholarship donations

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Buckeye Career Center Foundation, which awards scholarships to BCC seniors each year, is accepting donations to honor the late Shannon Wigfield. Contributions in Wigfield’s name will be earmarked toward the Shannon Wigfield Memorial Scholarship.

Wigfield was a 24-year staff member at BCC who taught English. She was killed in the Nov. 14 bus crash involving the Tuscarawas Valley band.

Scholarships awarded by the Buckeye Foundation may be used for tools of the trades or further education. Last year, the Buckeye Foundation awarded 21 scholarships of $2,500 each to BCC seniors. Anyone interested in contributing to the Shannon Wigfield Memorial or other scholarships awarded yearly by the foundation can mail their earmarked donation to Buckeye Career Center Foundation, PO Box 355, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.

Advent/Christmas Moravian stars available
