BASEBALL

West De Pere 8, De Pere 2

DE PERE - Logan Wierzba was 3-for-3 with two RBI, Drew Van Oss was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Zac Wotruba homered to lead the Phantoms to the nonconference win.

West De Pere struck for three in the first, one in the second, two in the third and two in the fourth.

Wierzba got the win on the mound, pitching five strong innings, allowing only three hits, three walks and striking out three batters.

The Redbirds scored their two runs in the third.

Landon Raygo led De Pere, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Denmark 10, Freedom 3

DENMARK - Grant Schroeder gave up two runs on four hits over six innings to lead the Vikings to the win over the Irish.

Leading 1-0, Denmark broke open the game with a five-run fifth inning. Garrett Taicher and Cade Delarwelle had run-scoring doubles in the inning.

Matt Eberhardt and Drew Kortz had two hits for Freedom.

Drew Shepard took the loss, striking out eight over four innings.

Denmark improved to 7-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Freedom is 7-6 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

Little Chute 3, Wrightstown 0

WRIGHTSTOWN - The Mustangs struck for three runs in the top of the eighth inning to outlast the Tigers in North Eastern Conference action.

Charlie Vanden Burgt picked up the win, pitching all eight innings and allowing four hits and one walk while striking out nine.

Vanden Burgt, Grant Van Gompel and Rowen Schmidt all drove in runs for Little Chute, while Noah Faccio was 2-for-3.

Caleb Podgorski started for Wrightstown, pitching seven innings and allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out five.

Sturgeon Bay 4-5, Algoma 3-4

STURGEON BAY - The Clippers rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh in the nightcap to earn the Packerland Conference doubleheader sweep.

The rally was sparked by pinch-hitter Rex Brusky, who singled, followed by a Trey VanderLeest walk and another Patrick Haese single to load the bases. Bryce Plzak then tied the game with a double. After a mound visit, Bryce’s brother Caleb laced the game-winning hit.

“Tonight was great baseball by both teams,” Sturgeon Bay coach Neal Henrigillis said. “Algoma has a phenomenal team, and their pitchers did a great job. This was a fantastic night of Packerland Conference baseball. Fortunately, we came out on top with some gritty at-bats by guys like Rex Brusky and Patrick Haese and, of course, phenomenal pitching to keep us in it the entire game.”

In the opener, the Clippers scored two runs in the third and two in the fourth to hold off Algoma. The Wolves scored twice in the third and once in the fourth.

Grant Vandervest, Carson Leist and Parker Lischka had two hits each for Algoma.

Sturgeon Bay is now 7-2 and 5-1 in Packerland play, while the Wolves fall to 5-5 and 5-3 in the league.

Oconto 18-11, NEW Lutheran 4-0

GREEN BAY - The Blue Devils set in the tone early, scoring 10 runs on seven hits in the first inning in the win over the Blazers in the first game of the doubleheader.

Brayden Gard got the win for Oconto in the first game.

Oconto completed the doubleheader sweep as Ethan Wusterbarth threw a one-hitter in the second game.

SOFTBALL

Green Bay Preble 2, Pulaski 1

GREEN BAY - The Hornets won a pitchers’ duel at Finger Road Park.

Preble’s Katie Geydoshek limited the Raiders to five hits, while Pulaski’s Morgan Vertz scattered six hits. Geydoshek struck out 10 batters and Vertz struck out four.

Tenley Kuehn had both RBI for the Hornets, while Sam Foytik recorded two hits.

Molly Molthen and Vertz each had two hits for Pulaski.

West De Pere 4, Menasha 3

MENASHA - The Phantoms scored four runs in the fifth inning and then held on to defeat the Bluejays.

Kailey Fink, Mallory DeMoulin and Emily Venden each had two hits for West De Pere.

Addie Lund had two hits and Taylor Papendorf hit a home run for Menasha. Kelsie Mohr and Teagen Massey-Plamann each had a double.

Lily Bukoske pitched a complete game to get the win for West De Pere. Gabrielle Farr took the loss for Menasha.

Algoma 13-17, Sturgeon Bay 0-1

ALGOMA - The Wolves put on their hitting shoes as they earned a doubleheader sweep over the Clippers in Packerland Conference action.

In the opener, Nora Krause and Hannah Nell scored three runs, while Megan Zimmer scored twice.

Jaydn Nellis tripled, homered and scored a pair of runs as well.

In the circle, Macie Zimmerman registered 10 strikeouts as she earned the win.

In the nightcap, Ryley Zimmerman and Brooke Mattson scored three runs each, while Zimmer added a home run.

Annika Schoeneman scored Sturgeon Bay’s lone run.

Southern Door 4-5, Peshtigo 2-7

BRUSSELS - The Eagles and Bulldogs earned a split of their Packerland Conference doubleheader.

In Game 1, Alanah Kaye had two hits to lead the Southern Door offense and pitched three innings of relief with six strikeouts to get the win.

Cameron Finger had two hits for Peshtigo, while Nevaeh Russell took the loss in the circle.

In the nightcap, Lainie Weddell pitched a complete game to earn the win, striking out five.

Sam LaCoursiere had two hits to lead the Bulldogs’ offense.

Leading the Southern Door offense were Sophia Counard with two triples and three RBI, and Isabella Price and Alexis Tassoul with two hits apiece.

Kaye took the loss in the circle.

GIRLS SOCCER

Pulaski 4, Sheboygan South 0

PULASKI - Ellie Mangold had three goals to lead the Red Raiders to the win over the Redwings.

Josie Steeno scored Pulaski’s other goal.

Sydney Hakes had four saves in goal for Pulaski.

Peshtigo 10, Clintonville 0

PESHTIGO - Audra Bauman scored four goals and Lauren Ahrndt added three goals in the Bulldogs’ win over the Truckers.

AnaLisa Beaumont, Alexis Newbury and Melanie Behnke each scored one goal for Peshtigo.

Lucy Lemire had two saves in goal for Peshtigo.
