Tua Tagovailoa’s first Pro Bowl nod headlines 6 Dolphins named to all-star event

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa headlines a list of six Dolphins who were named to the AFC’s Pro Bowl Games roster Wednesday night.

Cornerback Jalen Ramsey, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, left tackle Terron Armstead, running back Raheem Mostert and fullback Ingold were also named to the Pro Bowl.

Tagovailoa, Hill, Mostert and Ingold were named AFC starters. Tagovailoa, Mostert and Ingold are first-time selections.

The Dolphins’ six selections are tied for fourth-most in the NFL. Only the San Francisco 49ers (9), Baltimore Ravens (7) and Dallas Cowboys (7) have more.

Tagovailoa finished third in fan voting. Tagovailoa led the NFL in fan voting last season but was named a first alternate. He did not participate in the Pro Bowl as he was making his way through the league’s concussion protocol. Tagovailoa is the first Dolphins quarterback to be selected to the Pro Bowl since Dan Marino in 1995 and is just the third quarterback in team history to earn a Pro Bowl nod, joining Marino and Bob Griese.

Tagovailoa, who in Sunday night’s home game against the Buffalo Bills will appear in every regular season game for the first time since entering the league, has set marks for passing yards (4,451), passing touchdowns (28) and completion percentage (69.6 percent). He leads the NFL in passing yards and completion percentage.

Ramsey will make his seventh straight Pro Bowl appearance despite missing the first eight games of the season with a torn meniscus. Ramsey, whom the team acquired in an offseason trade, leads the Dolphins with three interceptions.

Hill, who joined Miami via trade in the 2022 offseason, has been named to the Pro Bowl in all eight of his NFL seasons. This season, Hill leads the NFL and has set a career-best mark with 1,717 receiving yards. Hill also leads the league with 12 touchdown catches.

Armstead was selected to his fifth and second consecutive Pro Bowl. The 32-year-old, who signed with the team in the 2022 offseason, has appeared in nine games for a Miami offensive line that has used 11 different starting combinations this season.

Ingold, in his second season with the team, has been a versatile player for the Dolphins’ offense, which leads the league in scoring. Ingold’s 119 receiving yards this season are a career-high.

Mostert, 31, has had a career-best year, recording his first 1,000-yard season. He also ranks sixth in the NFL in rushing yards (1,012). Mostert’s 18 rushing touchdowns and 21 scores from scrimmage both franchise records. He joins Fred Taylor (2007) as the only players in NFL history to be selected as running backs to their first Pro Bowl at 31 years of age or older.

The last time the Dolphins had at least six players initially picked for the Pro Bowl was following the 2002 season. And Miami has not had five offensive players initially selected to participate since following the 1984 season. The 2024 Pro Bowl Games will be the first to feature four starters for the Dolphins since 2003

12 Dolphins were named alternates: Bradley Chubb (first), Christian Wilkins (second), Jaylen Waddle (third), Jevon Holland (third), Blake Ferguson (third), Austin Jackson (fourth), Durham Smythe (fourth), Xavien Howard (fourth), Braxton Berrios [return specialist] (fourth), Robert Hunt (fifth), Connor Williams (fifth) and Zach Sieler (fifth).

Votes from fans, players and coaches contributed to the selections, with each group’s vote counting as one-third toward determining the Pro Bowl players.

The Pro Bowl Games will be a multi-day AFC versus NFC competition culminating on Sunday, Feb. 4 at Camping World Stadium.
