Trump spars with Sheldon Adelson over megadonor’s refusal to spend more on reelection campaign: report

President Trump reportedly had a major blow up with Sheldon Adelson over the megadonor’s reluctance to pour big bucks into the 2020 fight for the White House.

Trump confronted the casino mogul about it during a phone call last week about the coronavirus stimulus plan and the economy, Politico reported.

The conversation got heated when the president demanded that Adelson open his wallet to help Trump win four more years in the White House.

The squabble has left Trump campaign officials worried that an angry Adelson won’t put his money behind the president’s fight to turn around his sagging poll numbers, according to the Politico report.

Adelson has been the single biggest donor to GOP candidates and causes in recent years, pouring billions into right-wing efforts and Trump’s 2016 campaign.

He may still come through for the embattled president when Trump needs him most.

But Adelson is also shrewdly aware of the impact that his backing may have on other wealthy donors, and may prefer to see others increase their support for Trump before whipping out his checkbook.
