Trump, do Ohioans a favor and pick Vance

I am hoping that Trump picks Sen. J.D. Vance for his running mate. Then Ohio could get rid of the lying, bootlicking, butt kissing, weak-willed, integrity lacking, sickening obsequious sycophant.

Maybe Gov. Mike DeWine could find someone who believes in truth, justice, and the American way to take Vance's place in the Senate, although it would be hard to find a Republican who would support the state and country rather than bowing down to their cult leader.

Research should have moved

I don't have much, if any, sympathy for the arrest of Ohio State University research scientist Sumaya Hamadmad, who refused to comply with a police officer's order that she move from her spot on the Oval after earlier campus protests.

When a police officer tells you to do something, just do it. I speak from experience.

I attended the pro-Israel rally in Washington, D.C., with 300,000 others in November. As the rally was winding down, I stopped to rest and sit down on the steps of the nearby art museum.

A police officer politely informed me that I wasn't allowed to sit down and would have to stand up. l politely stood up. I didn't give him an argument about my constitutional right to sit where I choose. So I wasn't arrested and finished my day in a very good mood.

Was there nothing better

Really, Columbus Dispatch. Your “important cover story” of your inaugural Sunday edition is Ohio State’s athletic director? There’s nothing in the news more important to profile on the front page (Congress, Gaza, elections, Kennedy’s brain worm) and an additional three pages in the first section?

Please keep college athletics in the sports pages so that those of us interested in real news can skip that section and read about substantive issues you cover that are more important to our daily lives as a society, state, and nation.

Consolidation will provide students more opportunity

I write to express my support for the Columbus Board of Education and its plans for consolidation of various buildings across the district.

As a former member of the Columbus Board of Education, I saw firsthand how chronic under capacity in our city’s school buildings results in limited opportunities for our students. I am pleased with the board’s leadership efforts to change this harmful trend.

When schools are too small and under utilized, they cannot offer much more than the basics: AP classes, special services, limited medical support, etc. Staff are spread thin and so are financial resources.

Columbus students are not the problem. Adults are. Closing schools not the answer.

I understand losing a cherished neighborhood building may be tough. However, the changes are necessary to benefit all of our students, our future.

Proposals of the past were blocked by a focus on needs other than those of our students.

I applaud the board’s leadership on these consolidation plans. I encourage our community to support the board’s consolidation efforts.
