True Detective: Night Country Audience Grows for 2nd Straight Week, Opposite NFC Championship

More and more people are venturing into the eerie Night Country.

The third episode of HBO’s True Detective Season 4 delivered 2.7 million cross platform viewers this Sunday night, marking a 5% increase from Episode 2’s own premiere tally (2.6 million).

Of note, True Detective this week aired opposite the final 45 minutes of the NFC Championship game between the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions, which averaged a not-insignificant 56.7 million total viewers (in Live+Same Day).

True Detective: Night Country‘s Jan. 14 premiere — which was up against a close NFL Wild Card game — delivered over 2 million viewers across platforms, compared to the White Lotus Season 2 premiere’s 1.5 million and the Euphoria Season 2 premiere’s 2.4 million. (TVLine readers gave the Night Country premiere an average grade of “A-.”)

With delayed playback and streaming, Night Country‘s Episode 1 audience has thus far grown to 10.7 million viewers across platforms, while Episode 2 currently stands at 8 million viewers. Those totals for Episodes 1 and 2 outpace both The White Lotus Season 2 and Succession Season 4, during a similar time frame.

HBO reports that True Detective also ranked No. 1 among all streaming titles on Max last week, though no supporting data points were provided.
