Troy Aikman Reveals Details From Decision To Leave FOX
It was reported earlier this year that Troy Aikman was leaving FOX to join ESPN’s Monday Night Football team. During a recent appearance on Sportsradio 96.7 and 1310 The Ticket in Dallas, the Hall of Fame quarterback opened up about his decision.
Aikman surprisingly revealed that FOX never made a final offer to him. Instead, the network allegedly congratulated him on his move to ESPN.
“It is a strange set of circumstances that led me to where I am now and not be back at FOX,” Aikman said, via the New York Post. “And I never would have envisioned that six months ago and so it is strange. When negotiations couldn’t reach, what I felt was fair value, I was able to negotiate an opt-out after six months which allowed me to be a free agent.
“Then FOX never jumped into the game. They never made an offer. I didn’t have any conversations with Fox, until I got a call to congratulate me on my new deal. So that was a decision they made and it’s fine.”

If this is true, it’s a bit shocking to hear that FOX never made an attempt to keep Aikman.
For over a decade, Aikman has been FOX’s top color commentator for NFL games. Now, the network will have to find a worthy replacement.
Aikman’s contract with ESPN is reportedly worth $90 million over the next five years.
