Arrrgh! Get ready to walk the Greenbelt plank, mateys!

Halloween is right around the corner, and according to a study conducted by fashion company Boohoo, pirate costumes are the go-to traditional get-up in Idaho this year.

The report analyzed Google trends to find the most popular classic and pop culture-inspired costumes of the year.

Idaho’s most popular Halloween costumes

Despite Idaho’s access to the open, salty seas via the long and winding Snake River, which dumps into the Columbia, that’s not stopping pirates from searching for treasure in the Gem State this weekend.

For trick-or-treaters, the Treasure Valley will undoubtedly live up to its name — with the treasure being candy, of course. Harrison Boulevard and Warm Springs Avenue in Boise are Halloween hot spots for bounty-seeking pirates and other trick-or-treaters.

Idaho shares its pirate invasion with five other states: Louisiana, North Dakota, South Carolina, Vermont and Wyoming.

Idaho’s most popular pop-culture outfit this year is Tom Cruise-inspired. No, it’s not quite 1986 anymore, but this time the inspiration comes from the 2022 sequel “Top Gun: Maverick.”

“Top Gun” is the third-most searched Halloween costume this year, with Massachusetts, Nevada, Tennessee, Utah and Wyoming all joining Idaho in their love for Cruise’s iconic character Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

America’s most popular Halloween costumes

Both pirates and “Top Gun: Maverick” costumes ranked third in their respective categories, putting Idaho firmly in line with the national trends.

But as is a tale as old as time, witches are America’s go-to for a traditional Halloween costume this year. Twenty states have Googled witch costumes the most, with the 2022 film “Hocus Pocus 2” building off the success of its predecessor nearly three decades earlier.

Meanwhile, Harley Quinn is America’s favorite pop-culture costume this year. The Batman villain has been a popular choice since Margot Robbie played the character in the 2016 movie “Suicide Squad,” according to Boohoo.

Harley Quinn was most commonly searched for in 13 states, followed closely by searches for the creepy doll Chucky in nine states.
