Tri-Valley senior Logan Ellison named Student of the Week

Our Student of the Week winner for the week of May 2 is Logan Ellison, of Tri-Valley High School.

Ellison was one of three students nominated by their school and district to participate last week in our newest initiative, celebrating high school students across Lincoln and Minnehaha counties. The winner was then determined by a poll with votes from the public between Monday and Thursday. Ellison had 107 of 136 votes cast.

"Logan Ellison, a senior at TVHS, embodies leadership and character, making him an exceptional candidate for Student of the Week," said Chris Larson, the Tri-Valley High School principal. "Logan serves as a stellar role model for his peers, showcasing unwavering integrity and determination. His active involvement in various extracurricular activities, including his recent stellar performance in the school musical, underscores his commitment to excellence. Moreover, Logan's achievement as co-valedictorian for the class of 2024 solidifies his outstanding academic dedication

As often as we can have nominations for the rest of the school year, we'll be using this Student of the Week poll to recognize such students, and you get to help determine who we should recognize.

The next poll is expected to launch Monday, similar to our Athlete of the Week feature. The winner will be featured Fridays online and in our weekend print edition.

The nominations are sent in by area principals and superintendents. We collect them, and then share them for a short voting period between 6 a.m. Monday mornings through 5 p.m. Thursday evenings, when the poll closes.

Come Fridays, you'll see who the winner is, and we get to highlight their accomplishments.

While we think of all these students as winners, and we want to showcase your great students and your great school, it's your vote that helps make this special. And we need your participation to make this happen.

A note, though: We're testing this new feature, gauging interest and identifying hiccups for the rest of the school year. When the school year ends, we'll have a better idea of how to bring this back next fall. And we're aiming to do so in a way that may allow for some prizes down the line. Maybe it's a gift card, or a bit of money for school supplies. Maybe it's even a scholarship.
