Tre Johnson is set to visit the Wildcats, and other top Kentucky basketball recruiting links
Kentucky men’s basketball has locked down an official visit with the top player in the class of 2024.
Shooting guard Tre Johnson — the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2024 according to the 247Sports Composite — will be taking an official visit to UK on the weekend of Jan. 28, when the Wildcats will host defending national champion Kansas.
On3’s Joe Tipton reported the news of Johnson’s upcoming official visit to Lexington.
So far, Johnson has taken official visits to Baylor and Texas. These are two in-state options for Johnson, who plays his high school basketball at Lake Highlands High School in northeastern Dallas.
Johnson told Tipton that Kentucky head coach John Calipari and new assistant coach K.T. Turner have been his main contacts at Kentucky.
Turner arrived at UK this summer and has deep recruiting ties in Texas.
Overall, it’s been an active recruiting period for the Wildcats.
Both class of 2023 UK signee DJ Wagner and class of 2024 UK recruit Ian Jackson were at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday for Kentucky’s game in the CBS Sports Classic.
The next day, both Calipari and UK associate coach Orlando Antigua watched Jackson in action at his high school in The Bronx.
Then on Tuesday night, both Calipari and Antigua traveled to Indiana to watch Flory Bidunga, a five-star center in the class of 2024 who is ranked as the No. 4 overall player in the class according to the 247Sports Composite.
Purdue head coach Matt Painter was also in the gym for Bidunga, who had 10 rebounds and three blocks while fighting through a hand injury.
Kentucky offered a scholarship to Bidunga in October, although Cincinnati is currently viewed as the leader in his recruitment.
