Travis Kelce’s next big move won’t be on the football field. Instead, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end is breaking into filmmaking.

The 34-year-old Super Bowl champion is an executive producer on My Dead Friend Zoe, a film debuting at South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas on March 9. The movie, directed by Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, is also the first film financed through renewable energy tax credits, PEOPLE confirms.

Investors took advantage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which President Joe Biden signed into law in August 2022. The production used funds from entrepreneur Mike Field’s sale of surplus tax credits, reports Variety. Field is also a producer on My Dead Friend Zoe.

The Inflation Reduction Act is the “single largest investment in climate and energy in American history, enabling America to tackle the climate crisis, advancing environmental justice, securing America’s position as a world leader in domestic clean energy manufacturing, and putting the United States on a pathway to achieving the Biden-Harris Administration’s climate goals, including a net-zero economy by 2050,” according to the Department of Energy’s website.

“Hollywood is risky, right? On a scale of one to 10, Hollywood, it is a 9.5. Especially in terms of independent film,” producer Ray Maiello told Variety. “These federal tax credits take the risk down to like a five.”

Kelce has worked in showbusiness before, having hosted Saturday Night Live in March 2023.

“I’ve been fortunate to do a few things outside of the sports world that I’ve been enjoying doing, like getting on camera,” Kelce told reporters last month.

“The SNL stuff kind of opened up a new happiness and a new career path for me, but it’s funny for me to even say that at this point in my career because I think it’s so much further down the road than it is right now,” he continued.

"He's really enjoyed hosting, and after he retires, he wants to lean into acting and hosting,” a source told PEOPLE in January. “He had a blast at SNL."

On Sunday, Kelce played an integral role in the Chiefs’ 25-22 Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers. It is the Chiefs’ second consecutive Super Bowl win and third in five years.

My Dead Friend Zoe was written by Hausmann-Stokes and AJ Bermudez, and stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Natalie Morales, Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Gloria Reuben.

The logline for the film reads: Engaged in a mysterious relationship with wise-cracking (and dead) best friend from the Army, a female Afghanistan veteran reluctantly reunites with her estranged Vietnam vet grandfather at the family's ancestral lake house.

My Dead Friend Zoe marks Hausmann-Stokes' directorial debut. He enlisted a month before 9/11 and served 5 years in the US Army as a paratrooper, receiving the Bronze Star in Iraq.
