Travis County elections: What is Proposition B on the Nov. 7 ballot?

Travis County residents on Nov. 7 will vote on a multi-million-dollar bond relating to area parks and land acquisition. Bond elections allow voters to approve or reject financing for capital improvement projects.

Proposition B, if passed, would approve funding for several park improvement projects and the acquisition of land for parks and conservation along existing greenway corridors in several areas including Lake Travis.

Here's how much the bond is and what the proposition would do if passed.

What is Proposition B?

Of the proposed $276,440,000 bond, around $201.5 million would go towards acquiring land for parks and conservation along existing greenway corridors in the Post Oak Savannah and Springs, Lake Travis and adjoining watersheds, Cow Creek, Gilleland Creek, Onion Creek, Wilbarger Creek, Pedernales River and Colorado River areas.

Additional improvement projects that would be approved in Prop B include:

  1. $15,515,500 for construction of greenway trails and amenities from the US 183 and Onion Creek trailhead east to Moya Park and west to McKinney Falls State Park.

  2. $30,225,000 for construction of greenway trails and amenities from Northeast Metro Park to Ben E. Fisher Park with additional improvements to Ben E. Fisher Park.

  3. $5,037,500 for construction of a community group building and associated park improvements at Arkansas Bend Park.

  4. $8,463,000 for construction of a community group building and associated park improvement at the Bee Creek Sports Complex.

  5. $15,717,000 for engineering and construction of synthetic sports fields at Southeast Metro Park.
