Trash pickups change for Thanksgiving holiday. Here are schedules in Triangle towns

Local governments in the Triangle will either be closed or reduce their operations to observe the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Nov. 24.

That means your normally scheduled trash and recycling pickup could be changed — most likely, delayed — this week.

Here are the schedules in cities and counties around the Triangle, and when you can expect to have your trash and recycling picked up.

Raleigh Thanksgiving garbage schedule

▪ If your normal collection day falls on Thanksgiving Day or the next day, your collection will be delayed by one day. Thursday’s routes will be collected Friday, Nov. 26, and Friday’s routes will be collected on Saturday, Nov. 27. Collection schedules earlier in the week will not be impacted.

▪ The city’s Yard Waste Center will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, but will operate on a regular schedule the rest of the week.

Cary Thanksgiving waste collection schedule

▪ Solid waste collections will remain on a normal schedule through Wednesday. Thursday collections will move to Friday, Nov. 25.

▪ The Citizen’s Convenience Center will be closed on Thanksgiving and will reopen on Friday.

Apex Thanksgiving garbage, recycling, yard waste schedule

▪ Trash and recycling will run on a normal schedule Monday through Wednesday.

▪ Thursday and Friday collection routes will be delayed by one day. Thursday routes will be collected on Friday, and Friday routes will be collected on Saturday.

▪ The town says yard waste crews “will service as many homes as possible Monday through Wednesday,” collecting on all routes. The town advises customers place items on the curb early in the week, before the Thanksgiving holiday, to ensure the items are collected.

Fuquay-Varina Thanksgiving garbage schedule

▪ Collections normally scheduled for Thursday will instead be collected on Friday.

Garner Thanksgiving garbage schedule

▪ Thursday routes will be collected on Friday. Friday routes will also be serviced on Friday, as normal.

Customers normally scheduled for Friday service “are encouraged to go ahead and put their containers out on Friday as well and our crews will get to them as soon as the Thursday routes are finished,” Abi Rea with the town’s public works department told The N&O in an email.

Holly Springs Thanksgiving garbage, recycling schedule

▪ Garbage and recycling collection will be delayed by one day for both Thursday and Friday customers. Collections normally scheduled for Thursday will be collected on Friday, and collections normally scheduled for Friday will be collected on Saturday.

Knightdale Thanksgiving trash collection schedule

Morrisville Thanksgiving garbage, recycling schedule

▪ Trash and recycling pickup service normally scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 24, will be moved to Friday, Nov. 25. Friday service will be moved to Saturday, Nov. 26.

Wake Forest Thanksgiving garbage, recycling schedule

▪ Trash and recycling collections scheduled for Thursday will instead be collected on Friday, Nov. 25. Friday’s routes will be collected on Saturday, Nov. 26.

▪ All yard waste routes, including those normally collected on Thursday and Friday, will be collected between Monday and Wednesday, Nov. 21-23.

“To ensure that all neighborhoods are serviced properly, residents are urged to leave their normal yard waste and loose leaves in separate piles behind the curb by 7 a.m. Monday for pickup by Wednesday,” the town’s website says.

Wake Forest residents can track the progress of leaf collection crews by calling the town’s Leaf Collection Hotline at 919-435-9582. The hotline is updated each weekday morning by 8 a.m. with information identifying areas where crews will be working that day.

Zebulon Thanksgiving garbage schedule

▪ Friday trash collection will instead happen on Saturday, Nov. 26.

▪ There will be no bulk waste pickup during Thanksgiving week.

Wake County solid waste Thanksgiving hours

▪ All Solid Waste Convenience Centers will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25, and will resume normal schedules on Friday, Nov. 26.

City of Durham waste collection schedule

▪ The city of Durham’s Solid Waste Management Department will be closed on Thanksgiving, Nov. 24.

▪ Curbside collections for Thursday garbage, Red Thursday recycling and Thursday yard waste customers will be delayed to Friday, Nov. 25. Friday yard waste routes will be delayed to Monday, Nov. 28.

▪ The city’s Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility and the Household Hazardous Waste Center will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24, and Saturday, Nov. 26. The facilities will operate on their normal schedules on Friday, Nov. 25.

▪ Orange County Waste & Recycling Centers will be closed on Thanksgiving. The centers will be open on Friday.

Chapel Hill Thanksgiving trash schedule

▪ Residential trash pick up will not be affected by the Thanksgiving holiday.

▪ Commercial trash pick ups will not be collected on Thursday or Friday. Collections will be completed earlier in the week.

▪ Garbage collection normally scheduled for Thursday will be collected one day early, on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Wednesday routes will also be collected that day, as normal.

▪ Garbage collection normally scheduled for Friday will be collected on Monday, Nov. 28. Monday collections will also be serviced that day, as normal.

Carrboro will service Wednesday, Thursday and Friday household waste collection routes earlier in the week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

▪ Collections normally scheduled for Thursday will instead be collected on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

▪ Collections normally scheduled for Friday will instead be collected on Wednesday, Nov. 23.

There will be no yard waste collection in Carrboro during Thanksgiving week.
