Followings its release back in June, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has set a new record for the film series – just not one it may have wanted to.

The latest film in the popular franchise sees Optimus Prime and the Autobots face a brand new threat capable of destroying the entire planet. To defeat it, they must team up with a powerful faction of Transformers known as the Maximals to save Earth.

But despite its all-star cast and explosive action sequences, Rise of the Beasts hasn't drawn in crowds and has become the lowest-grossing instalment in the franchise, with its final release in Japan not bringing in the big bucks.

So far, the film has grossed $436.7 million worldwide, failing to beat Travis Knight's 2018 spin-off Bumblebee which amassed $465 million.

In comparison, Michael Bay's original Transformers from 2007, of which Rise of the Beasts is a prequel, earned $708.2 million at the worldwide box office. Its sequel, 2009's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen scored $836.5 million.

Both 2011's Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Transformers: Age of Extinction, released in 2014, raked in more than $1 billion worldwide.

Starring Peter Cullen, Ron Perlman, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, Pete Davidson, Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, the film was released in cinemas in June, and is now available to buy on digital in the UK.

This is in stark contrast to Rise of the Beast's impressive opening weekend in which it nabbed the number one box office spot from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Upon its release, the latest Transformers film divided critics, with some lauding its action sequences while others branded it a dud in comparison to other instalments in the franchise.

Despite this, Rise of the Beasts has two sequels in development while an animated prequel, Transformers: One, is set to be released on September 13, 2024.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is available to buy now in the UK from Prime Video, Microsoft Store and other digital retailers.
