Track Recap: Quincy girls take runner-up honors at Comstock

COMSTOCK – The Quincy Oriole girls track and field team had a banner weekend as the team took to the road to compete in the Comstock Invitational. Quincy finished with runner-up honors at the invitational, taking second with a score of 120.5 points. Centreville finished first with 120.5 points, while Lawton finished third with 107.5 points.

Bronson also made the trip to Comstock, finishing in ninth place with a score of 36.5 points.

Two Quincy runners and one relay team finished with gold medals at the event, led by sophomore hurdling ace Brookelyn Parker who took first in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.16 seconds while also taking second in the 300 hurdles in a time of 51.37 seconds.

Also bringing home gold for Quincy was junior Charlotte Crabbs who ran away with the win in the 3200, taking gold in a time of 13 minutes, 42.14 seconds.

The 3200-relay team comprised of Raylee Fulton, Katharina Parchke, Sadie Miller, and Crabbs also brought home the gold, winning the race in a time of 11:21.58.

Depth proves to be the key

Quincy’s depth proved to be a major key in their runner-up finish as 16 individuals finished inside the top eight, while all four relay teams also earned big points.

Aiding in the Quincy effort was Elizabeth Craig, third place in the 400; Parchke, fifth place in the 800 and third place in the 1600; Raylee Fulton, sixth place in the 800; Sadie Miller, fourth place in the 1600; Peyton Proctor, seventh place in the 1600; Libby Butchart, fourth place in the 3200; the 400 relay team of Kali Kugler, Brooke McVicker, Isabelle Marske, and Olivia Davenport, sixth place; the 800 relay team of Craig, Kugler, Marske, and Lita Fulton, third place; the 1600 relay team of Parker, Fulton, Craig, and Miller, second place; Kyha Brewer, seventh place in the shot put; Emyleigh Burlew, sixth place in the discus; Coelie Smullen, fourth place in the high jump; Abigail Miller, eighth place in the high jump; McVicker, second place in the pole vault; and Fulton, third place in the pole vault.

Bronson finishes ninth, led by multiple medals from Hayes

The Vikings were led on the day by junior Jaiden Hayes who brought home several medals, including a second-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 14 feet, 6 inches to go along with a fourth-place finish in the 100 and a fourth-place finish in the 300 hurdles.

Also adding to the Bronson effort was Itzel Albarran, sixth place in the 200; Miriam Sanchez, sixth place in the 400 and eighth place in the 800; the 400 relay team of Albarran, Addison Calloway, Sanchez and Hayes, third place; the 800 relay team of Calloway, Zayda Cardenas, Yelssi Herrera, and Albarran, fifth place; and Skylar Smith, eighth place in the discus and eighth place in the high jump.
