Track and Field Roundup: Mason gets best of Huron League foes

ERIE – Erie Mason hosted a pair of Huron League teams for a track and field meet Tuesday and stole the show.

The Mason boys beat St Mary Catholic Central 100-28 and flew by Flat Rock 85-43. The Eagles also swept both girls meets.

Aaron Koehn won the shot-put and discus to lead a strong performance in the field events by Mason’s boys. Anthony Crooks (high jump) and Jackson Iocoangeli (long jump) also won.

Landen Nastle took the 100 and 200 dashes while Ethan Albright (highs) and Lincoln Murbach (lows) were double winners.

Flat Rock’s Jacob Stanislawski ruled the 1,600 and 3,200 meters while teammate Caleb Rollins took the 400.

SMCC’s Caleb Hendrick was first in the 800.

Beth Sweeney led Mason’s girls with victories in the high jump and both hurdle races. She also ran on a winning relay.

Mikaela Graves swept the weight throws.

Other top performers were Giulana Nastle, Abbi England, Paige Konrad, Elizabeth Lambert and Audrey Trainor.

Flat Rock’s Reagan Higdon won the two shortest races of the day and teammate Sophia Chan (400, long jump) also was a double winner. Keola Botts took the discus.

SMCC showed strength in the distance events with Bella LaFountain crossing the finish line first in the 800 and 1,600 and Samantha LaFountain winning the 3,200.

Johnson leads Milan

MILAN – Adam Johnson took both the 200 and 400-meter dashes and was also on the winning 800 relay team with Virgile Gruwez-Guinet, Nolan Matley, Gavin Tomecek to lead a Milan sweep of New Boston Huron Tuesday.

The Big Red boys won 77-51 and the girls defeated Huron 81-39.

Jaxon Wourman captured titles in both throws. Other Milan winners were Gruwez-Guinet (100), Caiden Lambers (high jump) and Noah Bussell (long jump).

Dylan Hudkins (hurdles) and Luke Dulecki (800, 1,600) were double winners for Huron, which also got a win from Cameron Crane (3,200).

Marissa Beck (shot-put, discus) and Malea Wourman (200, high jump) where double winners for Milan’s girls. Other champs were Madison Lancaster (400), Amerie Wilson (800) and Emma Budd (long jump).

Falyn Doss won the 1,600 and 3,200 for Huron. Olivia Pryor (100), London Richardson (high hurdles) and Avery Turk (low hurdles) also won.

Pilachowski carries Bears

GROSSE ILE – Jenna Pilachowski had a full day in leading Jefferson’s girls past Grosse Ile 93-34 Tuesday.

She won the three longest races of the meet and teamed with Kim Miller, Lauryn St. Bernard and Riley Peer to take the 3,200 relay.

Layla Tahmouch swept the throws, Alyssa Masserant won the 400 and ran on two winning relays and Katie Powell took first in the 100 and 200.

The Jefferson boys won 85-42 behind double winners Ben Merkel (long jump, high jump), Orion Galloway (800, 1,600) and Tyler Swinkey (throws).

Trey Oldenburg, Mike Armetta, Josh Hargreaves, Will Steinhour and Nolan West also won events.

Foor sets record

CARLETON –Matt Foor set a school best in the discus throw for Airport, breaking a 10-year-old record. Foor’s throw of 170-5 beat Kellen Sorenson’s previous standard of 167-2.

Foor also won the shot put (50-5) while Owen Verduyn was victorious in both hurdle races and the high jump.

Airport’s girls lost a by a razor-thin margin, 66-62.

Courtney Bovair won the 800, 1600 and 3200 meters and was on the winning 3,200 relay with Emily Sell, Mia Erickson and Madison Kemp, Bovair. Gianna LaFata won the 400 and ran on the winning 800 relay.

Ida tops Summerfield

IDA – Ida’s boys beat Summerfield 96-74, while the girls squeezed out a win over the Bulldogs 74-63 Tuesday.

Grantham Nelson (100, 800), Dylan Tengler (1,600, 3,200) and Brandon Commet (200, high hurdles) were double winners for Ida’s boys.

Summerfield’s Teddy Gault was tops in the low hurdles and long jump with Brody St. John took the 400.

Julia Hughes had a big day for Ida’s girls with three wins (both hurdles, 200). Other Ida winners were Taegan Williamson (400), Katelyn Bydlowski (3,200), Madison Steinman, Madalyn Lutz (discus) and Grace May (pole vault).

Grace Ryamond of Summerfield took first in the 800 and 1,600 and ran with Mia Miller, Mackenzie Wolfe and Cammy Taylor on the winning 1,600 relay.

Wolfe also won the high jump and Emma Jacob captured the 100.

Relays lift Whiteford

DUNDEE – Whiteford’s girls easily handled Britton-Deerfield 107-14 and used a strong relay performance to sneak by Dundee 70-66 Tuesday.

The Bobcats were trailing by a single point before they took the 1,600 relay with Annabelle Gapp, Aubrie Simmons, Alaina McClain and Briar Wing.

“This shows our girls resilience and their ability to get it done in the mile relay. I can always count on my mile relay to take care of business when it counts,” coach Jay Yockey said.

Individual Whiteford wins came from Alaina McClain, Braelynn Chiotti, Annie Gapp, Kenzi Gray and Reagan Wing.

The boys beat Britton-Deerfield 110-23 and defeated Dundee 88-49 as Kolby Masserant won the long jump and shot-put and Keegan Masters, Brock Norman, Jess Saylor, Kolby Masserant, Stepan Masserant and Ryin Ruddy won.

Maddie Salenbien won the 100, 200 and 400 for Dundee’s girls and Isaak Rubley (1,600, 3,200) was a double winner for the Viking boys.

Monroe gets swept

ANN ARBOR – Monroe’s teams both lost to Arbor Skyline and Ypsilanti Lincoln Tuesday.

The boys lost 92-41 to Skyline and 72-56 to Lincoln, while the girls fell 90-43 to Skyline and 75-57 to Lincoln.

Teegan Simmons took first in the shot put (48-10) and discus (154-9) and was second in the high hurdles.

DeShun Richardson placed second in the 400.

The girls earned three second place finishes in the field events from Kendall Gunter (discus), Corrina Aulph (high jump) and Alexandra Butler (long jump).
