Track: Bronson travels to Reading, Tekonsha competes in SCAA Jamboree

READING – The Bronson Viking track team traveled to Reading’s Roger and Debbie Price Field on Wednesday for a Big 8 double dual versus the host Rangers and Concord.

In the girls portion of the standings it was Reading defeating Bronson 50-46 while Concord defeated Bronson 85.5-32.5.

The Vikings' girls team was paced by junior Jaiden Hayes, who swept the hurdle events, winning the 100-meter hurdle in 19.32 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 52.24 seconds. Hayes also added a second-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 13 feet, 11 inches.

Also helping the Bronson effort with a top three finish on the night was Miriam Sanchez, second place in the 400 and second place in the 800; Abbi Ferry, third place in the 1600; the 400 relay team of Itzel Albarran, Addison Calloway, Sanchez, and Hayes, second place; Skylar Smith, third place in the high jump; and Itzel Albarran, third place in the long jump.

In the boys competition the Vikings were able to notch three separate wins to keep pace with their Big 8 counterparts. Reading defeated Bronson by the score of 77-48 while Concord defeated Bronson 85-42.

Earning wins for Bronson was Tyler Wilber, first place in the 1600 in a time of 5 minutes, 12.04 seconds; Jace Hoard, first place in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 5 inches; and Kam Brackett, first place in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 7 inches.

Rounding out the Bronson effort with a top three finish was Boston Bucklin, second place in the 400; Jack Ganton, second place in the 3200; Stevie Wilson, third place in the 110 hurdles and third place in the 300 hurdles; the 1600 relay team of Brackett, Bucklin, Dallas Wilson, and Tyler Wilber, third place; and Lance Salek, third place in the discus.

Bronson will be back in action Friday when they head to the Schoolcraft Invitational.

Tekonsha track competes in second SCAA jamboree of the season

CAMDEN – The Tekonsha Indian track and field team traveled to Camden Frontier on Wednesday for the second SCAA jamboree of the season.

In the girls' competition it was Tekonsha who finished in fifth place with 24 points. Hillsdale Academy was dominant on the day, winning the event with a score of 254 points. Mendon finished in second with 88 points, followed by Camden Frontier in third place with 63 points.

Tekonsha was led by Carissa Shedd with a third-place finish in the 3200 in a time of 15 minutes, 58.89 seconds and Angel VeenKant, fourth place in the 300 hurdles in a time of 1:09.

Junior Reagan Henry also had a solid day down in the throwing pits, taking third place in the shot put with a throw of 27 feet, 0.50 inches and second place in the discus with a throw of 74 feet, 2 inches.

In the boys' varsity contest it was Tekonsha that took sixth place overall with a score of 10 points. Hillsdale Academy made it a clean sweep, winning with a score of 253 points, followed by Mendon in second with 140 points and Camden Frontier in third place with 70 points.

Anthony Carter led the Tekonsha effort with a fourth-place finish in the 100 in a time of 11.74 and a third-place finish in the 300.

Ben Mead also took a pair of top eight finishes, taking seventh place in the 400 and seventh place in the 400
