There are few mother-daughter duos more iconic than Diana Ross and Tracee Ellis Ross. Some might call them supreme. And to remind us of their greatness, Tracee shared a stunning ’90s throwback from a Gap ad they did together.

“Some of my old stuff be floating ’ around,” she captioned the Instagram. “Just saw this little blast from the past. 19-year-old me with bushy eyebrows in this @gap ad from 1991 with my mom.”

In the shots, Tracee and Diana posed facing each other, their temples meeting, eyes locked on the camera. They wore matching white tanks and jeans. Fans and followers loved the memory. “Talk about aging GRACEFULLY 😍😍😍,” one person commented. “Y’all look like sisters at that time....such a beautiful portrait of mother-daughter affection,” another added. “STILL FINE!!!!!! Just like yo mama 🤌🏾,” someone else wrote.

As someone who grew up the daughter of a Motown music legend, Tracee, 51, is often asked if she ever felt overshadowed, or pressured to live up to high standards. But the reality was quite the opposite: She didn’t age in her mother’s shadow, but instead, in her embrace. Diana’s confidence, passion, and determination to be a present mom and a dedicated performer opened Tracee’s eyes to the realm of possibilities for her own life.

“I come from an abundance of love in a way that I feel beyond grateful for, because it gave me a foundation and a sense of how to show up in my life for other people and for myself,” she recently told NPR.

And yes, her mom inspired her to be the entertainer she is today. I wanted to be a woman on a stage in a sparkly dress,” she said. “And it wasn’t the sparkly dress or the stage that was it. I wanted what that represented for me. I saw my mom be a woman full of agency, who was not saying, ‘Look at me,’ but ‘This is me.’ I saw a woman who was full of power and wielding it with grace and love as the anchor, and I wanted that.”

As an accomplished actor, activist, and producer, it’s safe to say Tracee has achieved what she set out to do. Diana must be extremely proud.
