After six solid seasons with the Minnesota Twins that included with two All-Star selections, starting pitcher Jose Berrios is on the move.

Ahead of this afternoon’s trade deadline, the Twins have traded Berrios to the Toronto Blue Jays. ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan quickly revealed that the Twins are getting some pretty solid compensation.

Per the report, shortstop/outfielder Austin Martin and pitcher Simeon Woods-Richardson are headed back to the Twins in the Berrios deal. Passan described the deal as “a huge haul” for the Twins here.

As for the Blue Jays, in Jose Berrios they’re getting a starting pitcher enjoying a strong season on the mound. Berrios is on pace for a career-best 3.48 ERA with 126 strikeouts in 121.2 innings.

Jose Berrios got his first MLB action in 2016, going 3-7 with an 8.02 ERA in his first year. But he quickly turned things around, going 14-8 the following year before really turning things up in 2018.

That year, Berrios had a 3.84 ERA with two complete games, a shutout, and 2020 strikeouts in 192.1 innings pitched. For his efforts he made his first All-Star appearance.

The following year, Berios went 14-8 with a 3.68 ERA in 32 starts. The Twins would go on to reach the ALDS for the first time since 2010 thanks in no small part ti him.

Berrios struggled a bit during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season but has looked rock solid this year.
