As storms roll through, tornado watch issued until 4 a.m. Tuesday for Kansas City metro

A tornado watch has been issued for the Kansas City metro area until 4 a.m. Tuesday as severe weather rolls across the state.

In a tweet Monday night, meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Kansas City said tornadoes are possible, and wind gusts up to 75 mph and hail the size of ping pong balls are likely.

The thunderstorms are expected to dump heavy rain — 1 to 1.5 inches — in the area, which could cause minor flooding.

Metro area residents should remain weather aware as the storms move through the area and check online for updates and warnings as needed.
