Flash flood warnings issued into early morning in wake of heavy rain and storms

Update: 12:05 a.m.: Several areas in southwest Ohio including north central Brown County, northern Clermont County, southwestern Clinton County, northeastern Hamilton County and southern Warren County are under a flash flood warning until 2 a.m. Radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible.

The National Weather Service said the agency will conduct storm damage surveys Wednesday, cautioning that the surveys may be limited due to additional severe weather and hydrological concerns."A more detailed plan on the exact locations of the surveys will be made later this morning as we continue to review damage reports," said a statement from the weather service office in Wilmington."If you have observed any weather-related damage, please report it to the National Weather Service via severe weather reporting methods or by calling 937-383-0031."

Update 11:20 p.m. The ramp from eastbound Interstate 275 E to Route 22 near Montgomery was closed in both directions due to high water.

Update 11:15 p.m. Butler County dispatchers are reporting multiple houses have suffered damage in Riley Township with trees and powerlines down. Funnel clouds were reported in the county, but no touchdown have been confirmed, officials said.

Hamilton County dispatchers are mostly fielding flooding complaints, specifically in Harrison and Colerain Township. Powerlines have been knocked down throughout the county as well.

Warren County dispatchers said most of the reports related to the weather have been downed trees.

Update 11:10 p.m. Duke Energy is report about 4,000 customers without power in the Greater Cincinnati area. Three major outages have been reported in Morrow, Middletown and White Water Park. Duke is estimating that power should be restored to those three areas between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Update 10:55 p.m. A flash flood warning has been issued for Mason, Loveland, Montgomery, Madeira, Milford, Blanchester, Morrow, Kings Island, Camp Dennison, Sixteen Mile Stand, Remington, Highpoint, Brecon, Concorde Hills, Four Bridges, Indian Hill, South Lebanon, Woodville and Maineville. The warning is set to expire at 2 a.m.

Update 10:47 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northern Clermont county, northwestern Brown County, southeastern Warren county, southwestern Clinton county and west central Highland county. The warning will remain in effect until 11:30 p.m.

Update 10:30 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Northwestern Clinton County including Wilmington, Clarksville, Cuba, Ogden, Oakland, Kingman, Interstate 71 at US Route 68, Cowan Lake State Park and Burtonville. The warning will be in effect until 11 p.m.

Update 10:25 p.m. As severe storms approach Ohio from the west, tornado sightings and warnings have been issued in some places. Tornadoes were reported on the ground around 9 p.m. at New Bremen in Auglaize County, at 8:54 p.m. near Newberry Township in Miami County, at 8:48 p.m. near Bradford in Darke and Miami counties and at 8:35 p.m. just west of New Knoxville in Auglaize County.

Update 10:15 p.m. A tornado warning has been issued for east central Warren County including Lebanon, Morrow, South Lebanon, Middleboro and Fort Ancient. The warning will remain in effect until 10:45 p.m.

A flash flood warning is in effect until 12:45 a.m. Wednesday in portions of Hamilton and Butler counties. Affected areas include Harrison, Green Township, Deer Park, Forest Park and Middletown.

Update 10:10 p.m. A tornado warning has been issued for Taylor Creek and surrounding areas in northern Hamilton County. The warning will remain in effect until 10:15 p.m.

Update 10:08 p.m. Tornado warnings have been issued for Mechanicsburg and Milford Center. The warning will remain in effect until 10:15 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Butler, Warren and Clinton counties for until 11 p.m.

Update 9:55 p.m.: The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a tornado warning for northeastern Dearborn County in southeastern Indiana northwestern Hamilton County and southwestern Butler County in southwest Ohio until 10:15 p.m.

At 9:51 p.m. a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Bright, moving east at 40 mph. Locations impacted include Cincinnati, Fairfield, Forest Park, Springdale, Harrison, North College Hill, Wyoming, Cheviot, Mount Healthy, Bright, Hidden Valley, Finneytown, Ross, Cleves, Shawnee, Taylor Creek, Bridgetown, Miami Heights, Dry Ridge, and Blue Jay.

Update, 9:50 p.m.: A tornado warning remains in effect until 9:45 p.m. for central Butler County.

At 9:33 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Seven Mile, moving east at 30 mph. Radar indicated rotation. Locations impacted include Hamilton, Trenton, Seven Mile, Williamsdale, New Miami, Jacksonburg, Collinsville, and Maustown.

The weather service also issued a tornado warning in Dearborn County, Indiana that included Batesville, Bright, and Hidden Valley until 10 p.m.

Update, 9:25 p.m.: More portions of Butler County are under a tornado warning.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Oxford, Hamilton and Trenton in effect until 9:45 p.m.

At 9:01 p.m., the weather service advised Oxford residents to go to a safe place as a tornado was likely on its way.

Update, 9:15 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Oxford. The warning is in effect until 9:45 p.m. Residents in Hamilton, Fairfield, Oxford, Trenton, Seven Mile, Williamsdale, Darrtown, New Miami, Millville, Somerville, Jacksonburg, Collinsville, Maustown, Mcgonigle and Beckett Ridge the area should seek shelter.

Update, 9:10 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Franklin County in southeastern Indiana, northern Ripley County in southeastern Indiana and northwestern Dearborn County in southeastern Indiana until 9:45 p.m.

At 9:04 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located 8 miles south of Greensburg, moving east at 30 mph. The weather service says 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail are possible.

Locations impacted in Indiana include: Batesville, Milan, Oldenburg, Guilford, Manchester, Sunman, St. Leon, Napoleon, Cedar Grove, Millhousen, Huntersville, Dover, Weisburg, Ballstown, Penntown, Interstate 74 at State Route 101, Lawrenceville, Saint Peter, and New Alsace.

Update, 9 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for northwestern Butler County in Southwest Ohio, eastern Union County in east central Indiana and southern Preble County in west central Ohio until 9:15 p.m.

At 8:52 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near West College Corner, moving east at 30 mph as a radar indicated rotation. Locations impacted include Eaton, Camden, West College Corner, College Corner, Somerville, West Elkton, Fairhaven, Hueston Woods State Park, Goodwins Corner, Morning Sun, Wheatville, Muttonville, Sugar Valley, and Lake Lakengren.

Update: 8:40 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued tornado warnings in communities in Indiana and Ohio. None were in the Greater Cincinnati area.

  • Northwestern Auglaize County and east central Mercer County in west central Ohio until 8:45 p.m. Locations affected include Celina, Wapakoneta, St. Marys, Coldwater, Moulton, Buckland, Montezuma, Neptune, Kossuth, State Route 116 at State Route 197, and Bulkhead.

  • Southeastern Wayne County, Union County and southeastern Fayette County in east central Indiana and southwestern Preble County in west central Ohio until 9 p.m. Affected locations include Connersville, Liberty, West College Corner, Salem, Brownsville, College Corner, Boston, Dunlapsville, Witts Station, Alquina, Whitewater State Park, Goodwins Corner, Billingsville, Clifton, Cottage Grove, Kitchel, and Springersville.

  • Northwestern Lewis County in northeastern Kentucky and southern Adams County in south central Ohio until 9:15 p.m. Locations impacted include Vanceburg, Rome, Blue Creek, Concord, Sandy Springs, Trinity, and Carrs.

Previous reporting: A tornado watch has been issued in the Greater Cincinnati region Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service at Wilmington announced the watch just before 6 p.m. It affects western Indiana, central Ohio, southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky. The watch expires at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

In the Cincinnati area in Ohio, Hamilton, Warren, Butler and Clermont counties are under the watch. In Northern Kentucky, Campbell, Kenton and Boone counties are impacted.

Severe weather moved into the region Tuesday afternoon in two rounds of storms. Severe thunderstorm warnings issued in the region for the initial storm expired by 2 p.m.

The weather service predicted torrential rain, small hail and gusty winds for the first round of storms.
