Top Somerset County spring sports performers for April 29 to May 4

Baseball

Claysburg-Kimmel 8, Berlin Brothersvalley 7: Craig Jarvis tallied three hits and an RBI for the Mountaineers in a setback to the Bulldogs.

Haydon Hutzell, Brady Janidlo and Cooper Huston each provided two hits and an RBI for Berlin.

Ferndale 5, Turkeyfoot Valley 4: Luke Bowers drove in two runs and Zack Ryan doubled for the Rams in a narrow loss to the Yellow Jackets.

Bryce Nicholson allowed four earned runs and struck out eight for Turkeyfoot.

Mountain Ridge 10, Meyersdale 9: Spencer Whitfield recorded three hits, two RBIs and scored two runs for the Red Raiders in a non-conference setback.

Ryan Sechler drove in two runs, and Karter Schurg added three hits and an RBI for Meyersdale.

Conemaugh Township 4, Windber 1: Luke Haight hit a 2-run double to help Conemaugh Township past rival Windber.

Larry Weaver hit an RBI triple and Luke Weber singled home a run. Weber pitched six innings, allowing no runs on three hits, five walks and struck out four.

Logan Serenko had a hit and an RBI for Windber.

North Star 5, Shanksville-Stonycreek 1: Parker Scherer contributed two hits and an RBI to lift the Cougars over the Vikings.

Bryson Durst added two hits for North Star. Braden Livingston allowed one run on two hits, two walks and struck out four over 4⅓ innings.

Isaac Jamison doubled for Shanksville.

Somerset 11, Greater Johnstown 1 (5): Callen Miller launched a grand slam and drove in six runs as the Golden Eagles clobbered the Trojans.

Cole Johnson and Braeden Flower each had a hit and two RBIs. Cameron Nicklow allowed a run on four hits, no walks and struck out four over four innings.

Softball

Rockwood 17, Shade 10: Sydney Beals went 3-for-4, including three doubles and five RBIs to propel the Rockets over the Panthers.

Elika Pletcher recorded three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored for Rockwood. Miley Pletcher and Lilly Hetz each delivered three hits and two RBIs.

Patty Kovacs and Kaylee Jamison each drove in two runs while Payton Maddy added two hits and two runs scored for Shade.
