The top play from every XFL team during the opening weekend

The XFL has completed the first week of its regular season. The league started by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird Capital aims to be a supplemental league to the NFL while providing an entertaining product.

All but one game was decided by less than one score in the opening weekend which had plenty of close finishes. Here is every team’s best play in week one of the XFL.

Arlington Renegades

The Renegades defense won this game playing lights out in the second half including two interceptions for touchdowns. Those defensive touchdowns would be the only touchdowns the Renegades scored all game in their 22-20 victory over the Vegas Vipers.

Vegas Vipers

The Vipers started off quickly, scoring the first touchdown of the XFL season on a beautiful throw from quarterback Luis Perez to wider receiver Jeff Badet. Perez would throw for two more touchdowns in the game along with two interceptions that proved costly.

Houston Roughnecks

The Roughnecks had the biggest margin of victory in week one by far blowing out the Orlando Guardians 33-12. Deontay Burnett was their top receiver of the day having eight catches for 90 yards and a touchdown. Burnett’s touchdown kick-started the Roughnecks’ 27-6 scoring advantage over the remainder of the game.

Orlando Guardians

It was a tough opening weekend for the Guardians as they had to bench their starting quarterback Paxton Lynch. However, this beautiful pass from quarterback Quinten Dormady might mean the beginning of the XFL’s first quarterback controversy.

San Antonio Brahmas

One of the best games of the day it seemed like this touchdown would put the game away for the Brahmas, but the Battlehawks had other ideas. It was the Brahmas only touchdown of the game and scoring field goals instead of touchdowns would come back to haunt them in their 18-15 loss to the Battlehawks.

St. Louis Battlehawks

Trailing by 12 in the waning moments of the game the Battlehawks used the XFL’s new rules to stage a dramatic comeback. First, they scored a touchdown and went for a three-point conversion to make it a three-point deficit. Second, they went for a fourth-and-15 conversion in lieu of an onside kick and were successful. Finally, they drove down the field and scored the above touchdown to complete the comeback with under a minute left.

D.C. Defenders

Trailing by ten points in the third quarter this pick-six would turn around the game for the Defenders. The defense would come up big again in the fourth quarter securing another interception in their 22-18 victory over the Sea Dragons.

Seattle Sea Dragons

The Sea Dragons first XFl touchdown this year was a great improvisation play from former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci to former NFL All-Pro Josh Gordon. DiNucci would throw two interceptions and no more touchdowns in the season-opening loss for the Sea Dragons.
