Top Lexington high school athletes celebrate college signing day
The spring signing period for high school athletes who intend to continue their playing careers in college opened Wednesday and many across Lexington finalized their commitments.
Among the day’s NCAA Division I recruits were two Frederick Douglass football defensive linemen — Jalen Hand, who signed with Western Kentucky, and John Sualla, who signed with Eastern Kentucky. Douglass wideout Tylon Webb signed with Army.
There were two Kentucky football signees in town — Bryan Station wideout/corner Damin Green and Lexington Catholic wideout/kicker Max DeGraff.
Also at Douglass, Jamison Gordon signed with Xavier volleyball. At Paul Laurence Dunbar, distance runner Anna Gedritis signed with Xavier track and swimmer Alex Ochsenbein will go to Missouri.
In addition to those signings, many more took part in ceremonies to celebrate their college choices. Below is a list of some of those announcements made at Lexington schools. Henry Clay, Lexington Christian and Tates Creek did not have any announcements Wednesday.
