Top Gun: Maverick star set to replace Steven Yeun in MCU's Thunderbolts

Marvel is lining-up Top Gun: Maverick star Lewis Pullman to replace Steven Yeun in Thunderbolts.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that the Beef star had exited the upcoming MCU movie due to scheduling conflicts and delays following last year's SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Deadline now reports that Pullman, who played Lt. Robert Floyd in 2022's Maverick, is currently the top choice to take over the role (reported to be Sentry).

Yeun recently opened up about his exit, telling Variety: "I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it. But Jake [Schreier, director], I know, is going to do an incredible job."

He added: "I wanna do a Marvel movie."

Speaking about revealing his exit to the movie's bosses, Yeun recalled: "It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out."

The star added of possible future Marvel plans: "I think it's too early to say that. I probably pissed off too many people leaving, so I'm just gonna say: 'Thank you for having me.'

"I have some ideas... But I heard if you put it out there, you'll never get it, so I'll keep it close to my chest."

Thunderbolts is set to feature a host of Marvel anti-heroes, including Florence Pugh's Black Widow, David Harbour's Red Guardian and Sebastian Stan's James 'Bucky' Barnes, though specific plot details are under wraps.

Teasing the movie last year, director Schreier told IGN: "I think that something that was exciting about Thunderbolts is it's not a sequel.

"It's a new story, and it's a set of characters that maybe we've met a little bit in the MCU before, but this is a very new take on who they are and what brings them together. Probably not what people are expecting from it, but I guess I can't really say more than that."

Thunderbolts will be released in cinemas on July 25, 2025.
