Some of the UK's top comedians are set to descend on England's smallest city for a weekend of laughter.

The Wells Comedy Festival is returning for its seventh event this Bank Holiday Weekend.

Highlights include Alan Davies, Harry Hill and Taskmaster's John Kearns.

"Comedians like performing here - the audiences are really nice, the venues are really nice, they have a nice time and if they have a nice time then they come back," said festival director, Ben Williams.

"We're thrilled with the line-up this year."

The three-day event is taking place across a range of venues including Wells Little Theatre and Cedars Hall.

Comedians plan to test their new material on crowds during the festival.

"They'll be making mental notes on which jokes worked and which didn't," said Mr Williams.

"They have already been working on these shows for quite a while though, so they should be in good shape."
