Over the years, Crate & Barrel has partnered with many creatives on new collections, a stable that reads as a list of design world must-knows, with names like Leanne Ford, Jake Arnold, Athena Calderone, and more. Rather than solely relying on this ever-growing roster, the brand is now partnering with a luminary from the culinary world: Top Chef star Eric Adjepong, whose debut collection with Crate includes over 60 pieces of glassware, decor, and cookware.

In addition to his semifinalist finish on Top Chef: Kentucky, Adjepong has appeared on numerous Food Network shows, most notably as the cohost of Alex v. America. His collection draws both on his experience as a chef and his background growing up in the Bronx as the child of Ghanian immigrants. “Bringing that aesthetic into Crate’s world was my number one goal,” he tells ELLE DECOR. “West Africa, but also New York; the texture of both.”

Pieces like the Didi Ketoa plates, for example, take cues from West African beads, while the collection’s vibrant color palette draws inspiration from textiles, plants, and materials—like brass and wood—native to the region. “It’s always really important for us to curate the work of artisans around the world,” adds Sebastian Brauer, head of design at Crate & Barrel. “I was keen on bringing that same sensibility to flavors from around the world as well.”

Naturally, given Adjepong’s culinary background, the pieces are as beautiful as they are functional, meant to be used at gatherings large and small, rather than sit in a cabinet and collect dust. Case in point: His personal stash is already flying off the shelves. “My mom has come through and taken some pieces,” he says. “So her kitchen looks really nice!”
