Top 5 high school football games to watch in Week 2 around the Fort Worth-area

Looking for a good high school football game to watch in Week 2, but don’t want to travel far.

We have the top games in the Fort Worth-area right here:

I-20 Classic

Orlando (FL) Jones (1-0) vs. Duncanville (1-0); Baltimore (MD) St. Frances Academy (1-0) vs. DeSoto (1-0)

3 p.m./7 p.m. Saturday, Clark Stadium, Fort Worth

Fort Worth will be home to Florida vs. Texas and Maryland vs. Texas as Week 2 is capped off with the I-20 Classic featuring Class 6A No. 4 Duncanville and 6A No. 7 DeSoto.

The Duncanville Panthers, who have gone to play for a state title in three of the past four seasons, opened with a win over defending 5A D2 champ South Oak Cliff while DeSoto will play its second out-of-state team.

DeSoto beat St. Augustine (LA) in Oregon in Week 1.

Jones went 12-3 last season while St. Frances went 8-1 and ended the year with a win over IMG Academy (FL). But Texas flexes its muscles on Saturday. Give me Duncanville, 31-21 and DeSoto 35-25.

Duncanville will take on Jones HS (Florida) as part of the I-20 classic on Saturday.

Denton Guyer (1-0) at Aledo (0-1), 7:30 p.m. Friday

Two state ranked teams kick off in Parker County on Friday night when the Guyer Wildcats visit the Aledo Bearcats. This could be the best game in the state, if we have a repeat of their last meeting in Aledo.

Guyer came to Aledo in 2019 and the Wildcats handed the Bearcats a very rare home loss, 60-57.

Guyer comes in No. 6 in the 6A state rankings after a blowout win over Rockwall-Heath. Aledo, which is both state ranked and area ranked, saw its rally come up short in a 24-17 loss against Dallas Parish Episcopal.

The game will feature a ton of D1 talent in Guyer QB Jackson Arnold (5-star Oklahoma commit), FS Peyton Bowen (4-star Notre Dame commit) and CB Eli Bowen (4-star recruit), and Aledo CB Jaden Allen (4-star Texas commit), LB Davhon Keys (3-star recruit) and OT Isaac Sohn (3-star UTSA commit).

Aledo will bounce back, but Guyer leaves Parker County with another win. Give me Guyer, 42-35.

Aledo will host Denton Guyer in a battle of state ranked teams on Friday.

McKinney Boyd (0-1) vs. Trophy Club Nelson (1-0)

7 p.m Thursday, Northwest ISD Stadium

There’s a good game in the area right off the bat as the Broncos visit the Bobcats on Thursday. Boyd is coming off a loss in the opener, but it came against top-ranked Class 5A Division 1 team, Longview, 36-10.

Meanwhile Byron Nelson, the No. 4 ranked Class 6A team in the area, put on a show during a 41-13 win over Plano. The Bobcats showcase one of the better offenses in the state with QB Jake Wilson and WRs Landon Ransom-Goelz and Gavin McCurley. All three players are in the Star-Telegram Top 100.

Boyd won last year’s meeting 28-26, but Byron avenges the loss. Give me the Bobcats, 35-27.

Mansfield Lake Ridge (1-0) at Boswell (1-0), 7:30 p.m. Friday

It’s a Top 10 area showdown in Class 6A when the Eagles visit the Pioneers on Friday night.

Both teams put up a bunch of points in Week 1 as Lake Ridge upset back-to-back state semifinalist Mansfield Summit, 50-27. Boswell won back the Wagon Wheel with a 46-0 shutout over Saginaw.

Look out for both QBs in Lake Ridge’s Kennen Miller and Boswell’s Sawyer Farr. Miller threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns against Summit. Farr threw for 160 yards and three touchdowns against Saginaw.

Boswell is No. 8 in the 6A area rankings. Lake Ridge is No. 9.

Expect another ton of points in this one. Give me Lake Ridge, 42-32.

McKinney North (1-0) vs. Justin Northwest (1-0)

7 p.m. Friday, Northwest ISD Stadium

Northwest ISD will welcome in two McKinney teams in Week 2 as the North Bulldogs pay a visit to play the Texans as both programs look to start the season with a 2-0 record.

Both teams gave up only two scores in Week 1, North beat Garland 38-10 and Northwest beat Prosper Rock Hill, 44-14. Northwest QB Jake Strong (4-star Texas Tech commit) accounted for three touchdowns.

He’s the top area QB and No. 5 in the S-T Top 100.

Linebacker Holden Bodie took care of the defense with a touchdown, 10 tackles and two sacks.

Should be a good one, but Northwest ISD Stadium goes 2-0 this week. Give me the Texans, 28-21.

Jake Strong hopes to lead Northwest to a win over McKinney North on Friday.
