Toms River man identified in fatal crash with a New Jersey State Police vehicle

SOUTHAMPTON - A Toms River man has been identified as the motorcyclist who was struck and killed by a New Jersey State Police vehicle in this Burlington County township on April 9.

Frank Lando Jr., 65, was traveling on Route 70, when his motorcycle collided with the vehicle operated by State Trooper Anthony Fernandes, who was on patrol at the time, according to a statement from the state Attorney General’s Office.

The crash, which is under investigation, occurred about 11:35 a.m. near the state highway’s intersection with Burrs Mill Road, the statement said.

Lando was taken to Virtua Mount Holly Hospital, where he died little more than an hour later, according to the statement.

Fernandes did not suffer any serious injuries, according to the Attorney General’s Office, which investigates all deaths that occur during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in their official capacity or while the deceased was in custody.
