Toms River man draws second batch of child pornography charges after being accused before

TOMS RIVER - A 52-year-old township man was charged Sunday with possession and distribution of child pornography following a charge of possession of the same in August.

The case against Edward Lynch started when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received tips about an individual downloading images of child sexual abuse, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a statement.

The High Tech Crime Unit of the prosecutor's office identified a home in Toms River as the place where these images were downloaded after finding the user's IP address, Billhimer said.

In a court-authorized raid on Lynch's home, detectives seized several electronic devices, and an initial examination found more than 1,000 items of child sexual abuse, Billhimer said.

Lynch was charged Aug. 24 with possession of child pornography. He was taken to Ocean County Jail and later released.

A full forensic examination of all the devices seized by the High Tech Crime Unit led to Lynch drawing a child pornography distribution charge and an additional possession charge, Billhimer said.

Lynch was taken to Ocean County Jail again, and now awaits a detention hearing.
