With his 44th birthday coming up in two weeks, Tom Brady has shown no signs of slowing down as he enters his 22nd NFL season.

Brady has long said he plans on playing until he is 45, and his longtime personal trainer Alex Guerrero said this week that the seven-time Super Bowl champion has “at least” two years left to play.

In an interview with Sirius XM’s Jim Gray, Brady again cited that 45 number, but then left open the possibility he could play beyond that.

“I felt for a long time I could play until I was 45 years old,” Brady said. “This year, I’ll be 44. Which naturally takes me to next year, and I’ve got a two-year contract. We’ll see what happens beyond that.”

So, when the time comes, how will Brady decide that it is the right moment for him to hang up his cleats and retire?

“I think I’ve got to get to that point first and then just evaluate how I feel and where I’m at in my life,” Brady said. “But things change as you get older, and there’s a lot of different responsibilities I have in my life. My kids and my family is certainly very important. They made a lot of sacrifices over a long period of time to watch me play. So I owe it to them, too.”

Brady proved in 2020 he can still play quarterback at an elite level into his 40s. We don’t foresee that changing any time soon.

Therefore, when the GOAT actually does retire, it will probably be a result of him just feeling the time is right and he has nothing left to prove, rather than his body or skills eroding.
