Toddler who fell from hotel window in Sioux Falls dies, GoFundMe for family started

A 1-year-old child, who fell from a third-story hotel window in Sioux Falls, has died, according to a public Facebook post by the child's mother Monday.

The child, Madden Hein, from Minnesota, was seriously hurt after falling from the window this weekend, according to authorities with the Sioux Falls Police Department. The child's organs will be donated, the Facebook post reads.

"His organs are going to help so many other people. Our little boy is a real life superhero," the statement reads. "We will get to do a honor walk with him to his organ donation surgery. We will give out information when we know as this is a process. This honor walk is for ANYONE who would like to help honor Madden in an amazing way."We have had so much love and support. We have felt it. We can’t explain how thankful we are for all of your thoughts and prayers. THANK YOU!"

Police spokesman Sam Clemens said officers were called at about 9 a.m. Saturday to a hotel in the 2300 block of South Louise Avenue, where the 1-year-old child had fallen from the window.

Clemens said nearby witnesses with medical training provided medical attention before the child was taken to an area hospital, adding the child had a pulse but was not responsive.

A GoFundMe page set up for the child's family had raised almost $55,000 as of Tuesday morning, after an update to the fund mentioned he had since died.

"It is with heavy hearts to say that sweet Madden gained his angel wings late on April 15. We will miss him so much and are having a hard time processing it all. Madden is giving the gift of life to so many people by going through the organ donation process. Thank you for all of the love and support that everyone is giving Madden’s family.

Madden has two amazing, loving parents who are teachers, an older sister who is 3 and a little sibling on the way who is due in August."

Clemens reitterated Tuesday the incident was under investigation, but that it appeared to be an accident.

"Everything just points to a tragic event," he said.
