'Today's Savannah Guthrie Offers Rare Comments on Previous Romance With Musician

Savannah Guthrie

While Today's Savannah Guthrie is happily married to husband Michael Feldman, a communications and political consultant, she wasn't always, and during her 20s, the TV personality even dated a musician for a time.

The 52-year-old opened up about her experience dating a guy in a band while talking with singer-songwriter Rachel Platten in New York City for a Q&A on Jan. 18.

Platten spoke a bit about her early career performing at clubs all over and having to deal with all the instruments and travel herself, via HELLO!, calling "hauling an 85-pound keyboard" one of the hardest parts.

Guthrie could surprisingly relate to that, telling the "Fight Song" singer, "I once dated a guy in a band, and he would make me carry the amp." She added, "'Why didn't I respect myself more in my 20s' is the question I ask myself," getting a lot of laughs from the audience.

The Today star also joked around about her ex-boyfriend's band, telling those in attendance, "I mean honestly, I wasn't even in the band. They weren't even that good." She didn't share any more details about who the band was.

While Guthrie didn't end up going into the music industry—or marrying a musician—she did show off her many talents this past Halloween when she dressed up as Taylor Swift and put on a lip-syncing performance of her hit song "Cruel Summer."

She also attended the Eras Tour with her young daughter Vale last summer. Who knows, maybe in another life she could've been a pop star like Swift and Platten?

Instead of a career in music, Guthrie studied journalism and law, and she has been an anchor on Today since 2011. She and Feldman got married in 2014, and they share two kids, a son named Charley, in addition to their daughter.
