Titans Have Signed Another Notable Running Back

Replacing Derrick Henry is as difficult as trying to tackle the 6’3”, 240-pound superstar. With Henry set for foot surgery, the Titans continue to stock up on running back depth.

Tennessee, who signed future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson on Monday, returned to the running back market on Tuesday. According to PFF’s Doug Kyed, the Titans have agreed to a deal with D’Onta Foreman. Foreman is the newest member of Tennessee’s practice squad.

The 36 year-old Peterson will reportedly join the Titans’ active roster, while Foreman will remain on the practice squad for now. Foreman, drafted in the third round by Houston in 2017, provides necessary insurance at RB. He’s logged 421 rushing yards and 4 total touchdowns in 17 appearances as a pro, mostly with the Texans.

While no one has ruled out a return for Derrick Henry (yet), the Titans have moved swiftly to fortify their running game in his absence. Henry’s devastating injury comes during a truly dominant season for the Alabama alum. He currently leads the NFL in rushing attempts (219), yards (937) and TDs (10). Henry has been on pace to just about match his all-time great 2020 stats (378 carries, 2,027 yards, 17 TDs). As of Tuesday, he has no timetable to return.

In order to make space for its new tailbacks, Tennessee has released linebacker Avery Williamson from the 53-man roster. The Titans also dropped defensive linemen Caraun Reid and Eli Ankou from the practice squad. They’ll be able to add a player back once Peterson is promoted to the main squad.

Tennessee’s first test without Henry is a daunting one. The Titans travel to Los Angeles this week for a Sunday night bout with the Rams. Kick-off is slated for 8:20pm ET.
