Who should Titans take on Day 3 of NFL draft 2024? Here are players to watch

The Tennessee Titans have five more picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, and the board is set up for this team to potentially find two or three more starters before the weekend is done.

The Titans own picks Nos. 106, 146, 182, 242 and 252, doubling up on picks in the seventh round. After picking Alabama offensive tackle JC Latham in the first round and Texas defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat in the second, size in the trenches is a lot less of a concern than it was 48 hours ago. But with needs at linebacker, defensive back, receiver and tight end still unplugged, these last five picks will be crucial.

Here are the players the Titans should target.

Round 4, pick No. 106: Texas TE Ja'Tavion Sanders

Few would've complained if Sanders was the Texas product the Titans picked in the second round. Now GM Ran Carthon has the opportunity to land the 6-foot-4, 245-pound pass catcher in the fourth. Sanders caught more than 70% of the passes targeted his way in three years with the Longhorns, twice landing as a first-team All-Big 12 honoree.

There's an argument that the Titans' other needs are more pressing, but in a draft where the Titans seem to be valuing super-sized freak athletes, linebackers and receivers in particular seem to be dropping further than expected, it's OK to wait to bet on a prospect with stellar upside.

Round 5, pick No. 146: Colorado State DE/OLB Mohamed Kamara

Edge rusher is another position that hasn't quite experienced a full-scale run on the mid-round talent yet, so the Titans might be lucky enough to have someone of Kamara's caliber fall to them in the fifth round. Kamara didn't play big-school college football, but the production numbers don't lie; in four games against Power Five opponents the past two years, he logged six sacks and 19 pressures. He's not the longest rusher, but he makes up for it with good speed, impressive power and a high motor, all traits that can help improve the Titans' pass rush.

Round 6, pick No. 182: Oregon State WR Anthony Gould

At 5-foot-8 and 174 pounds, Gould is sure to bring the size averages down in this hulking class. But little guys need some love, too, especially little guys who have the sort of burst and side-to-side quickness that Gould does. Worst-case scenario, Gould carves himself a role returning punts and kickoffs. Best-case scenario, his lateral agility and shiftiness in space make him an ideal slot target to complement Calvin Ridley and DeAndre Hopkins on the outside.

Round 7, pick No. 242: Ohio State LB Tommy Eichenberg

It's easy to look at Eichenberg, a 6-foot-2, 239-pounder with a brother who plays center in the NFL and who was a two-time All-Big Ten honoree and named the Big Ten's best linebacker in 2023, and assume he's a throwback, nose-to-the-dirt linebacker. And to an extent he is; he racks up tackles and makes plays in the backfield, though he regressed a bit in coverage in 2023.

But he proved with his impressive shuttle and three-cone drill times at the NFL combine and his pro day that he's more adept at moving side to side than maybe would be expected. Either way, the Titans need a physical presence in the middle on first and second down and Eichenberg provides it, with the upside to grow into more of an every-down player.

Round 7, pick No. 252: Penn State CB Kalen King

Yes, King had a rough 2023. And his combine performance might've been more brutal. At this point last year, though, he looked like a potential first-round pick. His ball skills are top-notch and he blanketed opponents in 2022, when he had the luxury of lining up across from Joey Porter Jr.

Without that in 2023, top receivers bullied him; Marvin Harrison Jr., for example, bullied him for five catches on six targets. But the Titans wouldn't be drafting King to guard Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson. Give him a chance to develop as a fourth option and see if that potential from 2022 can be recaptured.
