Titans Announced Significant Update On Derrick Henry

Derrick Henry’s status for this weekend’s playoff game has not been determined yet, but the bruising running back took a major step forward today.

Titans head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters on Tuesday that Henry has been cleared for contact and will practice in pads this afternoon.

“I think that’s a good step up for him to have contact,” Vrabel said, via ESPN’s Turron Davenport. “It’s been a while since he’s had contact and had to do these things that come close to replicating what’s going to be asked of him in a football game.”

Tennessee will make a decision on Henry’s availability for Saturday later in the week. The two-time NFL rushing yardage leader has not played since October 31 due to a foot injury.

At the time of his injury, Henry was once again leading the NFL in rushing yards with 937 and had scored 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Since Henry went down, the Titans have used a combination of D’Onta Foreman, Dontrell Hilliard and Jeremy McNichols to shoulder the load at running back. Getting Henry back in any capacity would be a major boost as Tennessee looks to win the AFC for the first time since 1999.

The top-seeded Titans will host the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
