Ah, the joys of kitten ownership. Bringing home a new kitten is always a delight - that is, until you remember what royal terrors they are. Irresistibly cute royal terrors that you'd give the world for, sure, but they're a handful nonetheless!

But little kittens don't mean to be naughty - that's just how they are! For instance, this poor innocent ginger kitten was surely only trying to help his mama by... pulling several hundred Ziploc bags from their box while she was at work. Hey, kittens have a different understanding of "helpful" than humans do!

Frustrated cat mama Kim Harris (aka @jacksmedullaoblongata) attempted to put her sweet-faced ginger kitten "on trial" for The Great Ziploc Baggie Caper. Luckily, this cute kitten had a powerful defense team: several hundred indignant TikTok commenters, at least one for every bag he allegedly pulled out of the box.

"He absolutely did NOT do it, but now that it’s done… might as well play with them," reasoned @readsleepcanwait. Hard to argue against that logic!

"An angel like that could never possibly commit such a crime," vouched @vibesmith212212.

"He's innocent. He's even trying to help clean up that other person's mess. He's truly a giver," praised @miss_andry_herself.

I see no compelling evidence to convince me that he was the one who pulled out all the Ziploc bags. If he did, though, I'm sure it was to save his mama the trouble of pulling them out herself. Besides, as commenters rightfully pointed out, he's helpfully trying to pick them all up again! Truly, the lack of gratitude is astounding...

Redirecting Naughty Kitten Behavior

All jokes aside, crazy kitten behavior is a lot to keep up with, and oftentimes, it leads to a big mess for Mom or Dad to clean up. The average kitten will have started to mellow out by the time their first birthday arrives, but those first 6-9 months of kittenhood are a handful!

There's nothing inherently wrong or abnormal about your kitten's hyperactivity - it's a normal part of their development. Of course, it can get stressful for pet parents when their kitten's youthful exuberance turns messy or destructive, as it (allegedly, hypothetically) did here. What's a worn-out kitten parent to do?

Frankly, the best thing to do is to "yes, and" your kitten's energetic playfulness by... playing with them! Untamed.com recommends engaging in short, structured play sessions centered around a toy they can catch or an LED laser they can chase (just make sure to give them a treat as a reward for "catching" the laser). They recommend keeping these sessions short so as not to overstimulate your kitten - 10 minutes is usually sufficient for blowing off steam.

Of course, there's no accounting for your cat's behavior while you're at work. If you know your cat has an affinity for a certain type of object they're not supposed to play with, you can try giving them a few cat toys with similar qualities. For example, if your cat's obsessed with plastic bags, try giving them a few crinkly balls they can kick around while you're at work.

Either way, keep the Ziploc bags locked up until you get home!
