Tina Fey Returning to TV in Netflix Comedy Series The Four Seasons, Based on Alan Alda Movie

Our reaction to this news is anything but “blergh!”

Tina Fey will star in The Four Seasons, a new comedy series for Netflix, the streamer announced on Tuesday. This marks Fey’s first series-regular TV role since 30 Rock ended in 2013.

Ordered for eight episodes, The Four Seasons is based on the 1981 film of the same name, written and directed by Alan Alda. Production is slated to begin sometime this year.

In addition to writing The Four Seasons, Fey, Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield are also executive-producing the project, along with David Miner, Eric Gurian and Jeff Richmond. Alda and Marissa Bregman are also on board as producers.

The original film, whose cast also includes Carol Burnett and Rita Moreno, follows three married couples who vacation together until one of the couples breaks up, leading to awkwardness for everyone else involved — especially when a much-younger girlfriend starts joining them on their seasonal trips.

And here’s a fun fact: This is actually the second time a TV series based on this movie has been attempted. Produced by Alda, it ran for 13 episodes in 1984.
