Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Have Fans in Stitches With Biting Jokes at the Emmys

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are a dynamic duo both onscreen and IRL—and once again, the BFFs proved they're a force to be reckoned with at awards shows, as they presented at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.

On Monday, Jan. 15, the 2023 Emmys that were rescheduled to 2024 kicked off with Fey and Poehler serving as presenters. Unlike Jo Koy at Golden Globes a week prior, however, their jokes landed magnificently.

The Saturday Night Live alums reprised their roles as co-anchors for the sketch comedy series' "Weekend Update" segment—but this time, they announced nominees for Outstanding Live Variety Special.

"We've reached the stage in life where we'll only present awards sitting down," Fey joked as she and Poehler wore matching black blazers with white shirts.

First on the list was the Oscars, which Poehler described as "the only show that's longer than when they air Titanic with commercials on TBS."

Next, Fey then announced Chris Rock's Selective Outrage. "Chris Rock couldn't be here tonight but if he wins, we'll accept on his behalf because we miss getting Emmys," she said.

The third nominee was Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodgers Stadium. Poehler joked, "Now I can't speak for Elton, but EGOT to be excited about that."

That was followed by the Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show starring Rihanna, which Fey declared was "the concert so good, it got us all pregnant."

Finally, Poehler announced the 75th Annual Tony Awards. "Celebrating the best in musicals that were based on movies which will probably be movies again," she said, to which Fey interjected, "There's nothing wrong with that," referencing her Mean Girls movie/musical/musical film.

And the winner is: Elton John!

Viewers took to social media to share their reactions to Poehler and Fey presenting at the Emmys.

One X user wrote, "having tina fey and amy poehler do weekend update mid emmys show is better than any hosting bit anyone could've come up with."

Another person declared, "Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are timeless."

Meanwhile, someone else wrote, "In 90 seconds, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler showed just how possible it is to be hilarious without punching down. AMY AND TINA TO HOST EVERYTHING CHALLENGE."

Going into the awards show, Poehler had been nominated for Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Competition Program for the Peacock series Baking It. She lost out to RuPaul, the host of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Poehler and Fey previously hosted the Golden Globes together on four different occasions. Currently, they have embarked on their "Restless Leg" tour.

Hopefully, fans of the besties can look forward to many more awards show appearances from Fey and Poehler in the future!
