Matchups and times for 2023 World Baseball Classic games being played in the United States, including all 15 games of the tournament that will be held at Miami’s loanDepot park, were announced Thursday.

And fans won’t have to wait long for arguably the marquee matchup of Miami’s pool, with the Dominican Republic and Venezuela facing off in the nightcap of the first day of pool play at the home of the Miami Marlins on March 11.

The 2023 World Baseball Classic takes place March 8-21, with Miami’s loanDepot park playing a role in all three rounds. Miami as well as Phoenix’s Chase Field, Taichung, Taiwan’s Intercontinental Baseball Stadium and Tokyo’s Tokyo Dome will each host five-team pools that will play a round-robin first round to open the tournament.

Miami’s pool play games will run from March 11-15 and the first-round field playing in South Florida includes Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Israel, the Dominican Republic and a to-be-determined fifth team that will come from one of the four teams that advances from the two qualifying tournaments. Great Britain and the Czech Republic, both of whom advanced from the Regensburg (Germany) qualifier are two potential options. The others would come from the second qualifying tournament that will be played in Panama City, Panama, from Sept. 30-Oct. 5. The six teams in that tournament vying for the finals two spots in the 20-team field are Panama, Nicaragua, Brazil, Argentina, Pakistan and New Zealand.

The top two teams in each of the four pools then advance to the quarterfinals, which will be held in Miami (advancing teams from the Miami and Phoenix pools) and Tokyo (advancing teams from the Tokyo and Taiwan pools). The semifinals and championships will also be held at loanDepot park.
