Times Herald-Record Student of the Week: Choose this week's winner

The nominations for the latest Times Record-Herald Student of the Week are in, and you can now vote for the week's top student.

Voting is open until noon, Thursday, April 25 on our website.

We will announce the winner at recordonline.com on Friday, April 26 and in the Times Record-Herald on Monday, April 29. Our next poll will also publish on Monday, April 29 with a new list of nominees.

Local school administrators nominated students who have shown outstanding academic and school achievement and provide the details on their accomplishments below.

And the nominees for the Times Herald-Record Student of the Week are …

Joniel Cholula-Jimenez, Tri-Valley: Joniel is a 10th grade student who came to Tri-Valley School last year. Since then Joniel has been an excellent addition to our student body.

He is a bright, well-mannered, motivated young man who is excelling in both his academics and athletics. Joniel is a very selfless and mature young man, often prioritizing his friends and family, while still being able to maintain his own needs.

Joniel aspires to become an astrophysicist while continuing his hobby of auto mechanics. He has demonstrated many leadership qualities, been a great example for his peers, and also maintained a GPA of at least a 3.5. We are very excited for his future endeavors as a Tri-Valley Bear!

Isabella Seager, Marlboro High School: Isabella is an 11th grade student at Marlboro High School. Her teacher, Mrs. Quirk, had this to say in her nomination:

"Isabella Seager is an exceptional student who has a consistent work ethic every day. She is currently a junior with a very rigorous schedule this year, but has maintained an average of a 96 for the first two quarters.

"She is an amazing student who is consistently pushing herself to her fullest potential. Isabella is an outstanding student who is intrinsically motivated and has a desire to truly know the material in her courses.

"Isabella takes the initiative to engage in conversations in class that connect the material she is learning in class to the real world. She is a leader both in the classroom and on the basketball court and shows wisdom and empathy that is beyond her years."

Olivia Rodriguez, Port Jervis High School: Throughout her tenure at Port Jervis High School, Olivia Rodriguez has been an actively involved student and athlete. She has earned an impressive academic resume during this time period. Olivia is currently ranked in the top 10 of her graduating class with an impressive GPA.

Throughout her senior year, she is enrolled in six dual enrollment college courses and will be graduating in June with an Advanced Regents Diploma. Olivia has earned several academic awards and recognition for her performance over the years. She gained entry into the National Honor Society as a sophomore in addition to making the high honor roll every semester throughout her high school career. Olivia was also an integral member of the PJHS Women's Varsity Soccer team.

Olivia is also involved in several community activities where she always keeps herself busy with giving back to her community. She can be found helping out at local organizations where she volunteers her time in various ways. Olivia has memberships with the National Honor Society, Student Government, National Society of High School Scholars, Rotary Interact Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Art Club, Varsity Club (Vice President), International Language Club and Class Officer (Social Chairperson).
