Thursday's Top Prep Performers: Volleyball teams win playoff openers
Highlights from Thursday in high school sports:
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Kate Duffey finished with 27 assists, 16 digs and eight kills, Daphne Raymond had 11 kills, Chloe Simpson had 10 digs, and Gigi Scaglia added eight kills as top-seeded Ventura opened the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 playoffs with a 25-19, 25-16, 26-24 sweep of Corona at home. The Cougars (25-4) will host Burroughs-Ridgecrest in a second-round match Saturday.
Sarah Shaw finished with 25 kills, five blocks and three aces, Makenna Hawkins had nine digs and two kills, Maddie Dodd contributed eight digs, five kills, three blocks and two aces, Regan Maguire had three digs, two kills and two blocks, Logan Burns had four digs and three kills, Emily Morge had four kills and six digs, Lily Morge had two kills, and Maggie Kearin added five digs and ace to lead second-seeded La Reina to a 25-21, 25-12, 25-14 sweep of visiting Whitter Christian in a Division 5 first-round match. The Regents (26-4) will host Rancho Christian in a second-round match Saturday.
Camarillo lost to visiting Valencia 21-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-13 in a Division 5 first-round match.
Ayzlinn Trefren had nine kills and nine digs, Jaidan Alexander contributed nine kills, four digs and four aces, Kyriah Trefren had 15 digs, and Ella Buonauro finished with 26 assists, six digs and four aces to lead Royal to a 25-9, 25-20, 25-21 sweep of visiting Bishop Diego in a Division 4 first-round match. The Highlanders (26-8) will play at Arrowhead Christian in a second-round match Saturday.
Leah Curtin finished with 10 kills and 12 digs, Kina Paculan had 21 assists and 11 digs, London Halvorsen had 10 kills, and Madelyn Miller and Addison Evans each had seven kills to lead Thousand Oaks to a 25-18, 25-20, 25-22 sweep of visiting Dos Pueblos in a Division 4 first-round match. The Lancers (22-7) will play at St. Lucy's in a second-round match Saturday.
Alexis O’Keefe had 16 kills, Joia McJimpson finished with eight kills and five aces, Olivia Lopez had seven kills, Makena Biondi added five kills and six blocks, Kiyomi Kohno compiled 31 assists and three aces, and Devin Levy contributed 13 digs to lead Agoura to a 16-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-23 win over host Walnut in a Division 4 first-round match. The Chargers will host Sunny Hills in a second-round match Saturday.
Moopark earned a 25-11, 25-12, 25-12 sweep of host San Gabriel in a Division 6 first-round match. The Musketeers will host Costa Mesa in a second-round match Saturday.
Grace Brethren lost to visiting Linfield Christian 25-14, 25-14, 25-18 in a Division 6 first-round match.
Nordhoff lost to visiting Tarbut V'Torah in 23-25, 25-14, 25-11, 25-12 in a Division 6 first-round match.
Gabby Nunal had seven kills, Zoe Sercu had six kills and three blocks, and Gabby Payne had seven aces to lead Villanova Prep to a 25-9, 25-18, 25-19 sweep of visiting Coast Union in a Division 8 first-round match. The Wildcats will play at Firebaugh in a second-round match Saturday.
Hillcrest Christian of Thousand Oaks earned a 25-23, 8-25, 25-20, 25-13 victory over visiting Hueneme in a Division 8 first-round match. The Saints will host Orangewood Academy in a second-round match Saturday.
Santa Clara lost to host Carpinteria in four sets in a Division 8 first-round match.
Channel Islands lost to host Jurupa Valley in three sets in a Division 8 first-round match
Newbury ParkAdventist swept New Harvest Christian in a Division 9 first-round match. The Gators will play at Mountain View in second-round match Saturday.
Beacon Hill lost to host Acaciawood Academy 20-25, 25-14, 21-25, 25-15, 15-12 in a Division 9 first-round match.
GIRLS GOLF
Oak Park had six players qualify for the CIF-SS Individuals and captured its fourth straight Coastal Canyon League team title by finishing first with a score of 376 in the final 18-hole league tournament at Olivas Links Golf Course. The Eagles have won 50 straight matches in league and will compete in the CIF-SS Division 1 team tournament at Los Serranos Country Club on Oct. 30. Nina Xu was second, Joanna Hong took third, Lily Huynh finished fourth, Sailor Graham tied for fifth, Madeleine Kim was seventh, and Bianca Magnifico was 10th as all six Eagles advanced to the CIF-SS Northern Regional Individual Tournament, to be played next Wednesday at Los Robles Greens Golf Course. Aidan McCleneghan finished first to win the league individual title and become the first Simi Valley golfer to earn the league MVP three times. Kiley Reisner tied for fifth to qualify for CIF for the Pioneers, who took second in league as a team. Me Li Root and Kai Aparicio of third-place Camarillo tied for eighth as both qualified for CIF. Moorpark finished fourth and Royal was fifth.
GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL
Agoura defeated Westlake 24-18 to hand the Warriors (15-1) their first loss of the season.

Oak Park beat Royal 12-6 to improve to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in league.
Camarillo defeated Simi Valley 25-0 to improve to 13-7 overall and 5-2 in league.
Thousand Oaks defeated Newbury Park 21-6, ending the Panthers' winning streak at seven.
Channel Islands defeated St. Bonaventure 12-6.
Ventura defeated Lompoc 27-24.
Oxnard (13-6) lost to San Marcos 7-6.
BOYS WATER POLO
Owen Fonua had four goals, three assists and three steals, Merrick Giles finished with three goals, three steals and an assist, Gino DelNagro and Ian Moore each had a goal and two assists, Cole Loomis and Lucca Postma each had a goal, and Luke Morda made five saves to lead Ventura to a 12-6 win over Dos Pueblos in a Channel League game. The Cougars, who are ranked No. 1 in CIF-SS Division 2, improved to 16-6 overall and 6-0 in league.
Oaks Christian defeated Agoura 15-3 in a Marmonte League game.
GIRLS TENNIS
Camarillo defeated Oak Park 11-7 in a Coastal Canyon League match.
Westlake defeated Oaks Christian 15-3 in a Marmonte League match.
