Three sent to hospital after crash involving state trooper: state police

Three people, including a Pennsylvania State trooper, were sent to a trauma center after a crash involving a marked police vehicle in Adams County on Saturday, according to a news release.

The crash occurred at 1:38 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, in the intersection of Emmitsburg Road and Millerstown Road in Cumberland Township just outside of Gettysburg, according to a release by Pennsylvania State Police that was issued Wednesday afternoon.

The news release states that a fully marked Pennsylvania State Police trooper vehicle was traveling south on Emmitsburg Road, using emergency lights and warning sirens while en route to a different crash with injuries.

At the same time, a white Ford transit van was traveling east on Millerstown Road, approaching a stop sign at Emmitsburg Road.

Upon reaching the stop sign, the van proceeded into the intersection without clearance, according to the news release, and was impacted by the police vehicle, which did not have a stop sign and had the right of way.

The van came to rest on its driver's side, and the police vehicle came to rest in an orchard, the release says.

Both occupants in the van, a 57-year-old male from California and a 57-year-old male from Massachusetts, along with the state trooper, age and gender not provided, were taken to the trauma center at York Hospital, the release says.

Their conditions as of Wednesday were not shared. The crash is under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police.
