Three-Row Land Rover Defender 130 SUV teased ahead of May 31 debut
Land Rover has announced that the three-row Defender, called the 130, will be revealed on May 31.
The model was first confirmed last March, and we spied it being tested in September.
The Defender 130 will seat eight passengers and is expected to be offered with six- and eight-cylinder engines.
The impending arrival of a three-row Defender has been known for some time. Land Rover first confirmed the model's existence in March 2021, and we spied prototypes of the boxy SUV testing in September. Now Land Rover has revealed that we will officially see the Defender 130—which joins the lineup above the two-door 90 and four-door, two-row 110—on May 31 and has released a teaser image of the 130 playing on some dunes.
The 130 will come with eight seats, with two rows of three positioned behind the driver and front passenger. To accommodate the extra passengers, the Defender 130 is expected to grow by ten inches, with most of the additional length coming on the rear overhang. The extended rear end of the 130 is obscured in the teaser image by a cloud of sand, but the spy shots give a good idea of what the extra length will look like, and not much else about the design is expected to change.
The stretched Defender 130—designed primarily for the U.S. and China markets—is expected to be offered only in higher trim levels and will likely be fitted with both the six- and eight-cylinder engines. Order books will open in the United Kingdom on May 31, and it shouldn't be long before U.S. customers can start plunking down a deposit on the newest Defender variant. The 130's starting price is expected to be at least $70,000, with V-8 models going for well over $100,000.
