Three observations from the Texas women's basketball team's blowout of Oral Roberts

Texas (8-0) hit triple-digits for the third time this season Wednesday, scoring a season-high 112 points in a 112-74 win over Oral Roberts at Moody Center.

The Longhorns and Golden Eagles played in front of an announced crowd of 7,211. Most of those fans were from local elementary and middle schools since Wednesday was UT's annual "40 Acres Field Trip" game.

Here are three observations and a quote from Texas' win:

Presenting a problem in the paint

Wednesday's game was 40 minutes long, but it essentially was decided within the first minute by two inbound plays.

Inbounding the ball by the Texas basket, Rori Harmon lofted a pass to Taylor Jones, a 6-foot-4 forward who quickly scored over the nearby defenders. Oral Roberts attempted to inbound the ball after that basket, but Harmon deflected the pass. Harmon ran down the loose ball and the airborne point guard then saved it from going out of bounds while also heaving a pass back into the paint, where Jones awaited for two easy points.

That 14-second sequence gave UT a 4-0 lead. The Longhorns never trailed in its 38-point win.

Led by Jones, Texas presented plenty of problems in the paint for Oral Roberts, which has only one 6-foot starter. Texas finished with 70 paint points to ORU's 34. Over its first seven games, UT has a 348-152 advantage in the paint.

A fifth-year senior who spent three years at Oregon State, Jones grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds and scored a career-best 27 points on 11-of-11 shooting.

"She's hard to guard because she's so big and she keeps it high," Oral Roberts coach Kelsi Musick said. "They're just really skilled. Texas does what they do, and they do it very well."

That 11-for-11 line tied Kelsey Lang's 2016 school record for most makes in a single game without a miss. Jones is the sixth player in program history to take at least eight shots in a game and not miss once. Last season, she went 9-for-10 from the floor against Oklahoma State.

"The numbers, it shows that was a good game for me, but I feel like our guards did a really good job at attacking and giving me great passes," Jones said. "A lot of my points were just quick ups is what we call them. I would say I've had good games and this may be one of the better ones looking at the stat line."

Five Longhorns scored at least 10 points. Madison Booker scored 17 while making eight of her nine attempts, which is now tied for the 12th-best single-game shooting performance in the Texas record books.

But don't forget about Rori Harmon

Not to be overshadowed, Harmon also stuffed the stat sheet. The All-American candidate finished with 10 points and 13 assists. She was two rebounds shy of recording the sixth triple-double in school history. She also recorded five steals while playing just 25 minutes.

"Dang, Rori, your stat line's crazy," Jones said at the postgame press conference while reading over Harmon's stats.

Jones then noted that Harmon also had two blocks. "I'm getting up now," the 5-foot-6 Harmon joked.

Okay, so what about UConn on Sunday?

So far this season, the Longhorns have preferred to live in the moment. Sunday's UConn game that fans had circled on their calendars since the date was announced? Texas has preferred instead to talk about whoever their upcoming opponent was.

Well, UConn is now the upcoming opponent.

No. 10 Texas and No. 11 UConn (4-2) have played each other 10 times, all won by the Huskies. UConn won 83-76 at home last year. Harmon missed that game with a toe injury.

"It's just a great opportunity for women's basketball in general to have a top-10, 11 to play against each other this weekend. So I'm really excited," Harmon said.

They said it: Longhorns are dealing with various ailments

"We're not exactly real healthy," Texas coach Vic Schaefer said. "We're pretty sickly right now. You can hear Taylor up here and if I brought 13 of them up here, they'd all 13 be sniffling. Yesterday we really didn't have a lot of energy at practice and (had a) hard day traveling Sunday (back from a tournament in the Virgin Islands). It was an all-day sucker. Monday was the day off, but yesterday was a struggle bus a little bit."

Sniffles and fatigue weren't the only issues that Texas dealt with Wednesday. Senior forward DeYona Gaston still hasn't played this season because of an ankle injury that she sustained in a preseason scrimmage. An ailing shoulder also sidelined senior forward Khadija Faye. Schaefer said Tuesday that Gaston will see a doctor this week, but she was set to work out with the team's posts that day. Schaefer gave Faye a "day-to-day" designation but added that "we do know it's nothing too serious."
